Berman Museum
Robert Franks - "Portraits"
Spaces, Places and Identity January 18 through April 17, 2011 Main Gallery
A significant exhibition of the works of photographer Robert Frank, focusing on the artist's redefinition of the term "portraiture" through his work before, during and after his most well-known series, The Americans. The Museum will borrow the photographs for the exhibition from the Archives and Special Collections at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Many of the images have never before been published or exhibited.
The exhibition will also bring to the Ursinus community the opportunity for arts-generated discussions about a wide range of critical issues relating to identity, including those of stereotyping and particularizing through the lenses of class, race, region and gender. Free to public
Photographs by Donald E. Camp Dust Shaped Hearts
January 18 through April 17, 2011 Upper Gallery
With his ongoing series, Dust Shaped Hearts, Camp seeks to counter stereotypes of African American men and women, presenting images of those who have quietly, yet profoundly, enriched our culture. The series has expanded to include men and women of all races, acknowledging that the struggle against ignorance and intolerance is a universal one. His work is characterized by both the unique process he used to produce his prints as well as his in-depth exploration of the dignity and nobility that can be found in the human face.
