Collegeville Main Street Program Design Committee Awards Golden Brush Award
On Tuesday, December 15th, Frank Sautner and Vince Giancaterino of DaVinci's Pub were honored with the Collegeville Main Street Program Design Committee's (CMSP) Golden Brush Award. This is the second time that a Collegeville Main Street business has been presented the award.
The Golden Brush Award was developed by the CMSP Design Committee to acknowledge those who have done an exceptional job in maintaining, renovating, or updating their Main Street Property. Debbie Riegner, chair of the Design Committee explained that DaVinci's Pub was chosen for several reasons, "Frank and Vince have done a wonderful job maintaining the improvements that were previously made. The landscaping is always attractive and the outside lighting and advertising help to draw people to the street."
Cindy Whitby, owner of Whitby Jewelers and Design Committee member added that DaVinci's Pub is a highly visible business on Main Street. "DaVinci's is the first business one sees upon entering Collegeville. The property maintenance is reflective of their support of the Main Street revitalization initiative."
Recipients of the Golden Brush Award receive a gold brush to be displayed prominently for others to see. A removable sign is also placed in front of their property announcing that they are winners of the award. The sign has encouraged people to stop in and inquire about the award as well as extend congratulations.
For more information on the Golden Brush Award, the Collegeville Main Street Program or to get involved on the Design Committee or other committee, please contact Linda Flederbach, Main Street Manager, at (610) 454-1050 or e-mail manager@collegevilledevelopment.org. |
Foot Smarts From the Collegeville Police Department and CMSP Pedestrian Safety Committee
Did You Know:
- At intersections with no signals (even a broken signal), pedestrians have the right-of-way when crossing the road within a crosswalk (whether it's marked or not).
- Pedestrians may not suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute a hazard. Doing so could result in fines and court costs in excess of $50. Think twice before you step out into traffic!!
- In 2008, Pennsylvania drivers were involved in 174 fatal crashes with pedestrians. And that doesn't include the non-fatal but serious accidents.
- It takes the average person 1.5 seconds to perceive and then react to an incident in the road ahead of them. During those 1.5 seconds your car is STILL moving forward. This is why we post speed limits - to give you time to react. Keep our citizens safe! Drive at or below the speed limit - and maintain a safe following distance.
- The safe following distance is MUCH farther than you may think. Use the 3-Second Rule: follow the car in front of you, and stay THREE seconds behind it. At night or in hazardous weather, double that to SIX seconds. Maintaining a safe distance from cars ahead of you is critical to safety, especially in an area where there are pedestrians. Stay safe - stay alive.
PennDOT reminds motorists that the pedestrian crossing signs placed in the center of the road at designated areas are designed to slow down traffic and alert motorists to areas where they can expect pedestrians.
