Landowner Hunting Rights Bill Clears Assembly
Heads to the Senate
Today, Assembly Bill 606 passed off the Assembly Floor on a 57-0 vote. COHA has been pleased to partner with Assembly Member Gatto (D-L.A.) on AB 606 in an effort to ensure that private landowners who enroll their lands in a DFG-managed conservation easement or wildlife habitat conservation program will not lose the right to hunt and fish on their property. COHA recently provided committee testimony in support of AB 606, and worked to secure its passage in the Assembly. The bill now heads to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water where it will likely be heard in early May.

Bill to Require Permanent Registration of Shotguns and Rifles Passes First Committee
AB 809 (Feuer) passed out of the Assembly Committee on Public Safety this past Tuesday on a 5-1 vote. This legislation would expand the current handgun registration law to include all long guns by requiring the State Attorney General to permanently maintain a registry of all firearms purchasers. Under the provisions of AB 809 (Feuer), those who buy or transfer a shotgun or rifle will be required to register that firearm by submitting their name, address, place of birth, phone number and occupation to the California Department of Justice.
COHA is working with other sporting interests to defeat this unnecessary and intrusive legislation. AB 809 is headed to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations where it will likely be heard in early May.
