COHA Hosts First Hunter Education Class at State Capitol
On Thursday, March 24th, COHA teamed-up with the Department of Fish and Game to offer a hunter education class at the State Capitol. For the first time, Legislators and staff had an opportunity to fulfill the necessary requirements to become a licensed hunter under the dome of the Capitol building, learning about the safe handling of firearms, the role of hunting in conservation, game laws and regulations and other important topics.
In all, 12 Legislators and staff were awarded a hunter education certificate and are now eligible to purchase a hunting license. COHA would like to extend a special thank you to Department of Fish and Game Wardens Captain Roy Griffith, Lt. Peter Blake, and Lt. Shawn Olague for all of their assistance.

Last Chance to Seek Hunting Opportunities for El Dorado County BLM Land Acquisition
Thursday, April 7th, will be the final opportunity for hunters to weigh in on the management of the Bureau of Land Management's Kanaka Valley property in El Dorado County (near Rescue). After this public meeting, BLM will decide whether or not, and to what extent, public hunting will be provided on the 700-acre parcel, which provides habitat for deer, wild turkey, dove, quail and other game species.
With some local residents strongly opposing any hunting on the BLM property, interested hunters need to attend the April 7th meeting to voice their support for new hunting opportunities. Below is the time and location of the meeting:
Green Valley Elementary School 2380 Bass Lake Rd, Rescue, CA Time: 6pm-8pm

Landowner Hunting Rights Bill Passes First Committee
COHA is pleased to report that Assembly Bill 606 has passed out of the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife on an 11-0 note vote. COHA is proud to partner with Assembly Member Gatto (D-L.A.) on AB 606 in an effort to help ensure that private landowners who enroll their lands in a DFG-managed conservation easement or wildlife habitat conservation program will not lose the right to hunt and fish on their property.
AB 606 now heads to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations where it will be heard in April.
