Late Season White Goose Hunts on Private Land

The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA), in cooperation with California Waterfowl and the California Department of Fish and Game, is once again offering late season white goose hunts on private land in the Imperial Valley via the SHARE Program.  Hunter applications will be accepted until Tuesday, January 25th.  Successful applicants will be selected through a random drawing.

Successful applicants will be allowed two consecutive days of hunting, and may Ross Goosebring up to five additional hunters.  The special late season begins February 12th and ends February 27th.  Revenue generated from the hunts will support private landowners participating in the SHARE Program.

Close the Year With a Gift to COHA

The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) would like to thank all of our members for their past support, and ask that you consider a year-end contribution to COHA.

 End of year

Regardless of California's difficult political playing field -- with your financial assistance -- COHA has had tremendous success in our commitment to the promotion of wildlife conservation and the protection of our hunting heritage in 2010.  Here's a short summary:

In the State Legislature, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed two COHA-sponsored pro-hunting bills:  SB 1058 which will prevent hunter generated revenues (over $11 million annually) from being misused for non-game or non-hunting purposes; and, AB 1254 which will ensure proper county expenditure of Fish and Game Code fine monies on related conservation projects, as well as facilitate the recruitment and retention of Hunter Education Instructors.

COHA also played a lead role in defeating many negative proposals brought forth by animal-rights and anti-hunting interests - including: AB 1810, which would have required all shotguns and rifles to be permanently registered with the Department of Justice; AB 2223, which would have arbitrarily banned the use of all lead shot on Fish and Game lands; and AB 2186, which would have prohibited ownership of firearms for a 10-year period for relatively minor firearms violations.  COHA also helped defeat several bills which targeted dog owners and breeders - including SB 250 which would have mandated the spay/neuter of dogs.

Similar progress was made at the State Fish and Game Commission level where COHA helped to secure liberal waterfowl seasons and bag limits and ensure maximum big game and upland game hunting opportunity, while successfully defeating many anti-hunting proposals - including those which would have prohibited sage grouse hunting throughout the state and substantially reduced hunting on the Mojave National Preserve.

If COHA is to be able to continue these positive efforts on your behalf in 2011, we will again need your help.  Please consider a gift to COHA this Holiday Season.  To dontate to COHA, please click here.

On behalf of the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance and generations of hunters and conservationists to come, thank you.
