Last Chance to Help Kill Long Gun Registration Bill
Legislation is pending on the Senate Floor that would expand the current handgun registration law to long guns by requiring the Attorney General to permanently maintain a registry of all firearms purchasers. Under the provisions of AB 1810 (Feuer), those who purchase or transfer a shotgun or rifle will be required to register that firearm by submitting their name, address, place of birth, phone number and occupation to the California Department of Justice.
AB 1810 could come up for a vote on the Senate Floor at any time. Please help COHA stop AB 1810 by immediately submitting a letter of opposition to your Legislator and the full Senate. For a sample letter and contact information

Action Still Needed on Restrictive Spay/Neuter Bill
SB 250 (Florez), which would impose burdensome spay/neuter requirements on dog owners and breeders, failed on its intial vote before the California State Assembly. However, the bill was granted "reconsideration", so it may be voted upon one more time before the Legislature adjourns, which will likely be next Tuesday, August 31st.
Under SB 250, dogs over 6 months of age would be required to be spayed or neutered, unless the owner purchases an expensive unaltered permit. Also, cities and counties would be authorized to impose their own spay/neuter requirements which may be more stringent that what is already mandated in the bill.
Please contact your Assembly Member and urge a "No" vote on SB 250. To find your legislator and contact info click here. |
