Last Chance to Help Recognize one of America's Leading Sportsmen-Conservationist.
Voting Deadline is Tuesday, December 15th - Vote Today! Jim Range, one of our nation's greatest leaders for sportsmen-conservationists, has been honored with a posthumous nomination as a finalist for the Budweiser Conservationist of the Year award. Jim, who suddenly passed away 10 months ago, spent his entire professional life conserving and enhancing Americans' hunting and fishing opportunities. His cumulative efforts stand as a very high benchmark to those of us who care about our outdoor heritage - and the lands and waters on which we pursue this legacy. COHA is working with the Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) to help recognize Jim for everything he did for hunters, anglers and our wildlife and fishery resources. In addition to his critical role in establishing and serving as Chairman of TRCP, Jim served on the Boards of Directors for Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, the Wetlands America Trust, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, the American Sportfishing Association, the American Bird Conservancy, the Pacific Forest Trust, the Yellowstone Park Foundation and the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, among others. Budweiser's annual Conservationist of the Year program recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to perpetuating the American outdoor way of life. Budweiser and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation will donate $50,000 to the 2010 winner's conservation organization of choice, with the money to fund the group's conservation efforts. Jim's family has designated the TRCP to receive the proceeds from this honor. PETA Increases California FocusAs reported by the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA), People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has redeployed an estimated 40 employees from its Virginia office to Los Angeles. Although the reason of their redirection of staff can only be speculated, the move will certainly increase PETA's presence and fundraising ability in California and is yet another indication of the political focus of animal-rights and anti-hunting organizations on our State. | COHA and Members Celebrate Alliance in Sacramento
On Saturday, December 5th, the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) hosted its member conservation organizations, outdoor industry and individuals at the first annual "COHA Alliance Celebration" in Sacramento. The event offered a full day program which focused on the need for those in the hunting and wildlife conservation community to better unite and coordinate efforts to more effectively protect our wildlife resources and promote our outdoor heritage for generations to come. Topics included enhanced coordination on youth education programs, political action, firearm rights and other issues of importance to the hunting community. The evening's dinner banquet offered an opportunity to highlight the integral political role COHA plays in helping conservation organizations accomplish their mission, keeping outdoor industry in business and passionate individuals in the field. The event's auction and raffle helped to raise critical funds for COHA to continue its essential work on behalf of California's hunting community.
