Support Needed for Placer County Deer Hunt Proposal

The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) strongly urges interested hunters to attend the Placer County Fish and Game Commission's meeting in Auburn on the evening of August 26th to urge support for an antlerless deer hunt proposed by the Department of Fish and Game.  Specifically, the proposal would modify the existing J17 apprentice deer hunt to increase the tag quota range from the current 5 to 25 tags to 5 to 75 tags.

The proposed change would not only provide additional hunting opportunities in the D4 Zone for youth hunters, but also help to better manage local deer populations by improving doe/buck ratios and reducing deer/vehicle conflicts.  In addition, a portion of the hunt would likely be incorporated into the SHARE Program to provide new public hunting opportunities on private land.

Anti-hunting groups are currently trying to block the proposed hunt, which has garnered widespread media attention.  Hunters need to attend the meeting to show the Commission and the general public that there is strong local support for increased deer hunting opportunities and necessary deer management.

The meeting will begin at 7:00PM on Wednesday, August 26th, in the Planning Commission Hearing Room, located at 3091 County Center Drive (at the corner of Bell Road and Richardson Drive) in Auburn.
