****ATTENTION GAME BIRD HUNTERS**** 2008-09 SHARE PROGRAM APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) - in cooperation with the California Waterfowl Association (CWA), California Cattlemen's Association, California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) and the California Farm Bureau Federation - is pleased to offer private land hunting opportunities for migratory and upland game birds during the 2008-09 hunting season via the Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Program. Applications from interested hunters are now being accepted. The SHARE program was authorized in 2003 via CWA-sponsored Assembly Bill 396 (Harman). The objective of the program is to provide economic incentives for private landowners to allow low-cost public access for hunting and other wildlife-dependent recreational activities, while facilitating stronger ties between landowners and sportsmen. SHARE is operated on a non-profit basis only, with funding used solely to pay private landowners and offset administrative costs. Although program funding is currently very limited, federal Farm Bill grant monies should be available in subsequent years to help keep hunter application and daily access fees at a reasonable level.
Similar to last season, all hunter applicants will be required to pay a $4 application fee for each desired hunt day(s) for each property. A $20 per hunter per day access fee will also be required for all successful applicants. Successful applicants will be chosen randomly by DFG via a lottery. All participating hunters must sign liability waivers. New for this year are special hunt opportunities for white geese (i.e. snow and Ross's geese) on private lands in the Imperial Valley during a special late season hunt that was recently approved by the California Fish and Game Commission.
Applications for the Central Valley, North Coast and Imperial Valley hunts are avilable on COHA's website. Please note that each application has its own due date and payment information.
