COHA Partners with CWA's Unattached Hunters Committee on Hunt Plan for Federal Refuges

The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) and the California Waterfowl Association's (CWA) Unattached Hunters Committee (UHC) recently provided written comments on the draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) for the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex, which includes Sacramento, Sutter, Delevan and Colusa NWRs.  The final CCP, which could be adopted as early as this fall, will dictate the number and types of public hunting opportunities provided on thousands of acres of federal lands in the Sacramento Valley for at least the next 15 years.

Our shared goal is to ensure an equitable and fair distribution of different hunting opportunities (e.g. blinds, free roam, assigned ponds, etc.) while avoiding or minimizing any further restrictions on users of the refuge system.  While best known for its waterfowl and pheasant hunting, it should also be noted that, under the draft CCP, the Sacramento NWR Complex hunt program could also be expanded to include limited turkey and dove hunting.

Over the last several years, the COHA/CWA UHC has also provided input on the hunt plans for many other NWRs, including Humboldt Bay NWR, Stone Lakes NWR, Lower Klamath NWR, Modoc NWR, Don Edwards NWR, Salinas River NWR and Sacramento River NWR.

COHA Web Master Needed

California Outdoor Heritage Alliance is looking for a volunteer to update and maintain our web-site: www.outdoorheritage.org.  The web-master will need to have knowledge of the programs listed below and be able to allocate no more than 15 hours a month for site maintenance.

COHA's web-site was created in "Dreamweaver", with some "hand-coding" in HTML and JavaScript.  The content management system is built in PHP, running on a MySQL database.

Please email Christine Pilcher or call (916) 643-4607 if you are interested in helping COHA promote wildlife conservation and protect our outdoor heritage.

The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) is a 501(c)4 non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of wildlife conservation and the protection of our hunting heritage. COHA was created in early 2006 by the California Waterfowl Association (CWA) to enhance the political effectiveness of hunters and other wildlife conservationists and enthusiasts in the halls of our State Capitol and beyond.   For more information on COHA and its member organizations, please visit www.outdoorheritage.org
