Northshore YMCA Receives Funds for Lunch Program from Walmart

YMCALogo The YMCA of Greater Seattle received a $25,000 grant in addition to a $62,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation for its summer feeding program. The grants will support youth lunch programs that have been drastically cut in recent years. The Y's overall goal is to increase college acceptance and graduation rates, because "learning and lunch go hand-in-hand."

UW Bothell Student Veterans Honor Their Fellow Soldiers and Classmates

UWB Logo

A monument to honor student veterans is in development for the University of Washington Bothell campus. Its purpose will be to recognize the service that veterans have made and also to celebrate the transition of veterans to academic and civilian life. The design of the monument includes an archway with two columns and a centerpiece with an inscription that invites visitors to remember and honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The monument has been organized and planned by the UW Bothell Student Veteran's Association. It will be located at the northeast corner of the new sports complex with access to the North Creek regional trail. The student group is currently fundraising to complete the project.

The Veterans Archway is anticipated to cost just under $60,000. This project will be 100 percent paid for by donations and is a gift to the university and our community by the Student Veterans' Association and generous contributors. To date the students have raised over $13,000 toward construction.

Pac Med What does it mean to get a good night's sleep? It means getting enough of it and waking up feeling refreshed. I think we can all agree that when we do not sleep well, our lives-most noticeably, our work, schooling, parenting, and driving-suffer. If we lose enough sleep, our health can seriously suffer, as well.
