Representative Moscoso Secures Funding for Bothell Crossroads Project According to Representative Moscoso's office, on the last day of the special session, the House of Representatives passed HB 1497, the 2011-13 capital budget, which provides funding for infrastructure projects such as parks, wastewater treatment plants, community centers and school construction.
The capital budget, which passed the House on a unanimous vote, restores $8 million for the low-interest Public Assistance Loan for the Bothell SR 522 Crossroads Project.
"It took a while, but I'm very glad we managed to get that project back in the budget," said state Rep. Luis Moscoso (D-Mountlake Terrace), who was instrumental in securing those funds. "The Crossroads Project is necessary because it will certainly address traffic congestion since we're looking at a 7 percent increase on 522 from the tolling on 520; but it's also necessary because it will create desperately needed jobs in my district."
Upon receiving the news, Robert Stowe, City Manager and Steve Anderson, Deputy City Manager for the City of Bothell, sent the lawmaker this message: "Please convey our sincere appreciation for his hard work to Representative Moscoso in seeing this matter through on our behalf. We look forward to seeing him soon and expressing our gratitude in person."

On June 23rd & 29th, the City will host two shoreline workshops. The purpose of the workshops is to introduce residents and property owners to draft Shoreline Master Program (SMP) Goals, Policies, and Regulations which will govern uses, activities, development, and construction occurring along the City's shorelines. What are Bothell's shorelines? They are the Sammamish River, North Creek, and, if annexed to the City, Swamp Creek, plus associated floodplains, wetlands and all lands within 200 feet of these water bodies. Whether people work along, live along, or use shorelines for recreation, economic development, or fishing, all citizens have a stake in the future of shoreline areas and the provisions which govern them. Summer is almost here and that means Bothell's LiveARTS volunteers are hard at work preparing Bothell's premier cultural event! This year, in addition to over 50 juried artisan booths and the juried art gallery, there will be a Quilt Show and the art and music of local students.
Throughout the festival there will be live performances and entertainment, the very popular Children's Art Corner, where families can explore their creativity inspired by a local Chalk Artist, and a Beer and Wine Garden (hosted by your very own Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce!). LiveARTS is seeking volunteers to participate during the days of the festival. This is a truly fun experience and all volunteers take away a festival T-shirt! Bothell Runners Race to Support Scholarships at UWB The UW Bothell 5K Run-Walk drew a record number of competitors to campus May 14. Proceeds from the annual event, which was organized by the university's alumni council, support student scholarships.
The event included 500 runners and walkers this year, compared to 350 in 2010.
"In order to draw a larger field this year, we needed to take the event up a notch," states Alumni Council representative Emily Anderson. "We added several features to the race including individual chip timing, bag check, age division awards, and a professional announcer."
The overall winners were: Colby Litzenberger in the men's category with a time of 16:20, and Megan Ekemo for the women with a time of 19:26. The event was sponsored by Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, & Cascadia Community College, among others.
Event organizers are looking at ways to expand the race for 2012, including the possibility of rerouting the course to include sections of downtown Bothell.
