Thanks to all that Helped Raise $102,000 for Students in the Northshore School District!
  Northshore Schools Foundation

The Northshore Schools Foundation Luncheon was a big hit!  While Jim Dever was not available after all, Andy Wappler and Dale Amundsen really helped in a pinch--and thank you to Claire Mortimore, the high school senior who brought down the house with her story of how she overcame her challenges in reading to become an AP student with the help of loving parents, dedicated teachers, her own self reliance and the support of the Foundation.

Thank you to many of the sponsors:

Foundation House at Bothell, Banner Bank, BECU, Puget Sound Energy, Northshore Kiwanis, Yakima Fruit Market and Staples...just to name a few!  And a special thank you to the Emcee of the event, Dale Amundsen of Evergreen Washelli.

Food Truck Regulations in Bothell
Submit your comments now

CityLogoBW
The Bothell Planning Commission is considering a series of "miscellaneous code amendments" that include one that would change the way food trucks would be regulated in the city. Currently, food truck operators would have to go through requirements for "peddlers" which are somewhat archaic and restrictive. Proposed changes would add "vendor trucks" to vendor carts, stands and spaces in the zoning code, adding some conditions and possibly allowing them on streets with a public area use permit.

Public hearings have been held on April 13 and May 4, and the item was noted at a Downtown Action Committee meeting on April 20 and in an email to restaurant businesses on May 3. The Planning Commission hearing was continued to Wednesday, June 1, starting at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers, 10116 NE 183rd. Comments can be made then, or in advance to Sr. Planner Dave Boyd, david.boyd@ci.bothell.wa.us, 425.486.8152.

Does Your Child Get Enough Vitamin D?
Article by Connie Wang, MD
Pacific Medical Centers

Pac Med

Living and working in the Pacific Northwest, I often hear questions about vitamin D, especially during the long dark winters. Vitamin D research has also been in the news recently. Here is some basic information about vitamin D, which hopefully will answer any questions you may have.

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is an important vitamin that aids bone growth and development by regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus.

What are sources of Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is not found in many foods; therefore, milk is fortified with Vitamin D in the United States. Vitamin D is also synthesized in the skin after exposure to sunlight.

Bothell's Arts Festival - Be Part of It
Saturday, June 25 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Sunday
, June 26 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

LiveARTS
Summer is almost here and that means Bothell's LiveARTS volunteers are hard at work preparing Bothell's premier cultural event!  This year, in addition to over 50 juried artisan booths and the juried art gallery, there will be a Quilt Show and the art and music of local students.

Throughout the festival there will be live performances and entertainment, the very popular Children's Art Corner, where families can explore their creativity inspired by a local Chalk Artist, and a Beer and Wine Garden (hosted by your very own Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce!).

LiveARTS is seeking volunteers to participate during the days of the festival. This is a truly fun experience and all volunteers take away a festival T-shirt!  To volunteer, contact LiveARTS at  volunteer@liveartsbothell.org.

Secretary of State Reed Brings Civics Tour to UW Bothell

UWB Logo
Secretary of State Sam Reed visited students from University of Washington Bothell and from Cascadia Community College on Monday to engage in a discussion about diversity and elections.

The visit to the Bothell campus was part of a college civics tour in which Reed is connecting with the state's youngest voters, who happen to be the age group with the lowest voter participation rate in Washington.

"It's important for students to realize their collective voice is powerful and that they need to exercise it through their ballot and through being involved," Reed said. "A key reason I do this tour is to remind students why their votes make a difference, and to encourage them to take part in their government and community."

Voters in the 18 to 24 age group remain by far the least engaged voting block in Washington, comprising only 5 percent of the population that took part in the 2010 General Election. The 65-and-over age group made up 24 percent of last November's voter turnout, followed by ages 55 to 64 (23 percent), ages 45 to 54 (21 percent), ages 35 to 44 (15 percent) and ages 25 to 34 (11 percent).
