Dear BISD staff,
Each year, the administration and board of trustees have the immense task of developing a budget that addresses the needs of the district as well as developing a compensation plan that is fair, while staying competitive with our neighboring districts. We have been able to do this despite being one of the lowest funded districts in Tarrant County.
In 2011, the Legislature faced a major shortfall in tax revenue causing them to significantly impact the way Texas funds public schools. Because of this, BISD, like every other district across the state, received reduced funds for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years. Therefore, BISD was not able to provide pay raises or step salary increases for staff for the 2011-12 school year.
The board of trustees and administration is committed to using a portion of the fund balance (savings account) to provide some much needed assistance on the campus level along with a supplement for all staff.
In appreciation to all staff, the board of trustees has approved a onetime $450 supplement for every staff member with the following guidelines:
- Half of the supplement will be included in the November 2012 paycheck, and half will be awarded in the May 2013 paycheck.
- In order to qualify for the supplement, an employee must be employed by the district prior to July 1, 2012 and must remain on the district payroll through the November 2012 and May 2013 paydays respectively.
The board of trustees and administration appreciate each of you and your service to the children of Birdville. It is because of this, they have committed funds for the above supplement as well as much needed resources for our campuses.
Thank you for all you do for our students and our community,

Dr. Darrell G. Brown
Superintendent
