Trustees Approve Watauga Elementary Principal
| Birdville ISD's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Justin Glenn Vercher as principal of Watauga Elementary at the April 26 board meeting. Vercher is replacing Jennifer Salyards, who was recently named principal at W.T. Francisco Elementary.
He has been principal at Crosby Elementary in Forney ISD since 2008. Prior to Crosby Elementary, he was assistant principal at Fielder Elementary in Katy ISD from 2005-08, physical education teacher at Franz Elementary in Katy ISD from 2004-05, kindergarten teacher at Roosevelt Alexander Elementary in Katy ISD from 2002-04, and first-grade teacher at Windom Elementary in Kansas USD 444 from 2001-02.
Vercher earned his bachelor's degree from Sterling College and master's degree from the University of Houston - Clear Lake.

BISD Playoff Information

Congratulations to all three high school softball programs for qualifying for the UIL State Softball Playoffs. Birdville High School, District Champs, will play South Hills High School at South Hills in a one game series Friday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. Richland High School, District Champs, will play Midlothian in a best of 2 of 3 series on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at Midlothian. On Saturday, April 28, they will play game two at Richland at 1 p.m. If game three is needed, it will be played at Richland at 3:30 p.m. Haltom High School will play South Grand Prairie in a best of 2 of 3 series on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Haltom High. On Saturday, they will play game two at South Grand Prairie at 7:30 p.m. If game three is needed, it will be played on Monday, April 30 at a neutral site that will be determined following game two. Ticket prices for all games are $5 for adults and $3 for students. In addition, all three high schools have track and field athletes that will compete at the UIL Regional Track and Field meets. Haltom and Richland high schools will compete at Texas Tech, and Birdville High School will compete at Abilene Christian University. A total of 36 athletes will be competing this weekend.

Attention BISD Teachers
| BISD has been given 100 free rodeo tickets for teachers to the North Texas High School Rodeo Finals May 20 at 2 p.m. at Will Rodgers Coliseum. (Only two tickets per teacher.) The theme of the day is honoring public servants such as firemen, policemen and teachers. All other staff may purchase discount tickets for $10 at the door.
