Board Approves Two Administrative Appointments

At their regular board meeting, the Birdville ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Joseph W. Cammarata as associate superintendent for staff and student services and Clarence Simmons as principal of Haltom High School. Cammarata will replace Jay Thompson, Ph.D., who is retiring from BISD on June 30 after 42 years of service, and Simmons will replace Mike Jasso, who took a similar position in Coppell ISD.
Cammarata has worked in education for more than 25 years. He began his career in 1986 as a teacher in Houston ISD. He then moved to Huntsville ISD where he worked 12 years, first as a teacher and then assistant principal. Cammarata was a junior high and high school principal from 2004-09 in Katy ISD. Most recently, he served as associate superintendent of human resources and administrative services for Forney ISD.
He received his bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University in 1986 and his master's degree from Sam Houston State University in 1995. He holds a mid-management certification and is currently pursuing his superintendent certification at the University of Texas in Tyler.
Simmons began his career in 1986 as a teacher in Temple ISD. He then moved to Burnet ISD where he worked five years, first as an assistant principal and then principal. Simmons served in Williamsville, NY as assistant principal from 1997-99 at Williamsville North High School and as principal at Williamsville South High School from 1999-2008. Most recently, he served as principal at Waco High School.
He earned his bachelor's degree from West Texas State University and master's degree from Southwest Texas State University.
Both Cammarata and Simmons will begin in BISD in July.
