Birdville Education FoundationThe Birdville Education Foundation recently awarded funds for 45 Birdville ISD projects totaling a record $92,000. Foundation liaisons went to 29 campuses during staff meetings to share the good news to more than 60 grant recipients.  On Thursday, March 3, the Foundation hosted more than 150 educators at The Sweet Taste of Success where grant recipients received their oversized checks and the crowd satisfied their sweet tooth with 30 different mouth watering desserts.

Grants included funding for a variety of subjects. Programs and activities funded include:  Computers on Wheels (COWS), an environmental friendly program, iPads for students with severe disabilities, hands on science experiments, and an accelerated reading program called Renaissance Learning.

SkillsUSA Members Compete in American Spirit Contest

Students from BISD's cosmetology and construction technology programs are participating in the SkillsUSA American Spirit contest. This contest involves a notebook with a Community Service section, a Patriotism and Citizenship section and a Promotion of Career and Technical Education section.

Students chose to make a cookbook to promote the career and technology classes at the Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning (BCTAL). They presented copies to the board of trustees on Feb. 24, where they explained that the cookbook highlights each of the programs at the BCTAL. Career and technology classes offer students a career that can help them work their way through college and succeed in their career choices. The students plan on presenting additional cookbooks to Chamber of Commerce members and to the counselors of the middle and high schools.
