Congratulations To Willa Gipson
Congratulations to Willa Gipson, BISD's director of athletics, for being named to the Texas Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame. Texas Wesleyan will honor athletes from the 1940s, 1950s and 1980s on Jan. 21 at Ridglea Country Club.

Willa Gipson was a 2nd-team NAIA All-American selection in 1982. She led the Lady Rams to a national runner-up finish with an overall record of 45-22 that season. The team's 45 wins are still a school record. She was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1991 along with teammate Diane Urey.
        
Congratulations To Shannon Houston

Congratulations to Shannon Houston, Watauga Middle School principal, for receiving the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education Distinguished Alumni Award from Dallas Baptist University in December 2010. She received this award in recognition of her dedication, professionalism, and demonstration of servant leadership in the field of education.

        
Francisco Elementary Hosts Texas State School Scrabble Championship

Francisco Elementary will host the Texas State School Scrabble Championship on March 5 at the Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. All students in fifth through eighth grade are eligible to play in two member teams. Sign-in begins at 8 a.m. The tournament ends at 4 p.m. with a presentation of awards. BISD's Fine Arts Department Presents...

Richland High School will celebrate its 50th year and 40th musical with the production of "The Wizard of Oz" Feb. 3-7 in the auditorium. Show times are:  Feb. 3-5, and 7 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. General admission is $12 for adults and $6 for students. Reserved seating and show passes may be purchased by calling 817-547-7058 or e-mail at Jerry Ayers. All BISD personnel receive one free ticket with their BISD ID.

  

 

 

Birdville High School will present "Anything Goes" Jan. 28-31 in the Henry Schraub Theatre. Show times are:  Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 30 at 2:30 p.m.; and Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Reserved seating is $14 in advance. Haltom High School will present "South Pacific" Jan. 29 - Feb. 1 in the auditorium. Show times are:  Jan. 29 and 31 at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.; and Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. Children under four and uniformed veterans are free. Deadline for Claiming Compensation for Unused Leave Retirement is February 1

To qualify for this benefit, an employee must:

  • Submit notice of retirement to Personnel Services no later than February 1 of the school year they plan to retire; 
     
  • Be eligible for retirement under Teacher Retirement System of Texas; and
     
  • Have been employed by the Birdville School District, with no break in service, for a minimum of five (5) years.
