Texas Governor Proclaims October Principal Month
The Texas Association of Secondary Principals and the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association are proud to announce the receipt of a proclamation from the Office of the Governor of Texas encouraging all Texans to "...recognize the important role principals play in ensuring that every child has access to a high-quality education..." and proclaiming October 2010 as Principals Month. Please join us in congratulating the school principals of our great state for their hard work and positive contributions by providing skillful leadership at local campuses throughout Texas.

Assistant Secretary of U.S. Department of Education Visits BISD

Brenda Dann-Messier, U.S. Department of Education assistant secretary of the office of vocational and adult education, recently visited Birdville ISD's Center of Technology and Advanced Learning. During her visit, she spent time with students and staff to discuss college and career readiness.

BISD Staff Enjoy World Series Festivities

Haltom High Marching Band Advances to State
Congratulations to the Haltom High School marching band for advancing to the 2010 UIL State Marching Contest. Haltom placed fourth out of 23 bands at the Area B competition. They will march in the state finals at the Alamodome on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Haltom's band has advanced to the State Marching Contest every year since 2000 ('00, '02, '04, '06, and '08) and in 1992. In six appearances, Haltom was a finalist (ranked in the top 10) three times.
Haltom will have one final performance at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31 at the F.A.A.C.

Auditions for musical "South Pacific"
Haltom High School's fine arts department is holding auditions for children ages 7-12 for the musical "South Pacific" from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1 in the choir room at Haltom. The children characters speak and sing French and are scripted to be Eurasian (Asian and European descent). They are the son and daughter of a Frenchman named Emile. Ngana is an 11-year-old girl and Jerome is an 8-year-old boy. Ages and ethnicity are flexible. For information, contact Renee Norris at 817.547.6126. |
