Campus principals need to verify that campus voice mail messages are kept updated and reflect pertinent information for your campus.

The Staff Recruitment
What is a volunteer?
District policy GKG (Legal) describes a volunteer as,
"a person rendering services for/or on behalf of the District on District premises or at a school-sponsored or school-related activity on or off school property who does not recieve compensation in excess of reimbursement for expenses."

What is volunteer time?
A staff member volunteers when they donate their time outside of their normal job responsibilities. This could be serving on the PTA board, chaperoning their child's field trip, sponsoring a school club where you are not paid a stipend, etc.

What time is not considered volunteer time?
As a staff member, you are not volunteering when you are grading papers, working assigned cafeteria duty, attending field trips with your class, or tutoring.

As a staff member, why do I need to complete the volunteer application each year?
By completing a volunteer application each year, you model for parents the need for them to complete the same process.  The district does not automatically enter staff member names into the volunteer database.  In order to be counted as a volunteer for your campus and to help your campus earn volunteer hours, you need to be on the approved volunteer list.

How do I enter my off-campus volunteer hours?
Entering volunteer hours is easy. You can enter them yourself online through the virtual volunteer system, or turn them into your campus volunteer coordinator or PTA president. (Hours volunteered on the campus during the regular school day are automatically entered into the system. All other off-campus hours must ber entered by the means listed above.)

Why do volunteer hours matter?
Each year, the district recognizes the elementary, middle and high school campuses that donate the most volunteer hours. Do your part to help your campus strive to be the "volunteer campus of the year."

Changes to Sick Leave Bank Guidelines
The guidelines for the Birdville ISD Sick Bank have been revised and are effective for the 2010-11 school year.  The following represents the major changes:
Enrollment period:  The sick bank enrollment period will now coincide with the open enrollment period for all other district benefits.
Sick bank committee election: Sick bank committee nominations will continue to be made from campus principals or department directors. However, when more than one member is nominated from a specific group, the current sick bank committee will make the committee selection rather than conducting a district-wide vote.  If no nominations are received from a specific group, the committee will select a new committee member to serve at-large from any other group nomination.
Required number of absence days: Sick bank members must be absent from work for five or more consecutive days in order to apply to the sick bank.  Exceptions are made for serious illnesses requiring periodic treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, dialysis, and similar conditions.
