The Texas Education Agency recently released preliminary TAKS scores for students who took the spring 2010 TAKS tests. BISD students' overall performance continues to show improvement over previous years. Across the district, the largest gains were in 10th-grade math, science and social studies. Overall, BISD students continued to perform at high levels in social studies and writing, with passing rates exceeding 90 percent at all grade levels.
BISD increased the number of students achieving commended performance in the areas of fifth-grade reading and math; seventh-grade math; eighth-grade science; ninth-grade reading and math; and 10th-grade English language arts, math, social studies and science. Commended performance represents academic achievement at a level that is considerably higher than the state passing standard.
"The performance of BISD students on state-mandated tests continues to improve even with the state and federal government raising the standards," Superintendent Stephen F. Waddell said. "I am proud of how diligently our students and staff consistently work to prepare for this rigorous test. With everchanging standards, they continue to rise to the challenge."
The final results and ratings will be released by the Texas Education Agency in August.
