Inclement Weather/Professional Learning Make-Up on April 17 |
Since BISD closed on Jan. 7 because of inclement weather, the district is required to make-up that day based on the district's approved 2009-10 calendar. The first make-up day on the calendar had already passed. Therefore, the district will use Friday, April 2 to make-up for being closed Jan. 7. The professional learning day scheduled for April 2 has been moved to Saturday, April 17 as indicated on the 2009-10 school calendar. Since the Texas Education Agency approved April 2 as a waiver day for professional learning in BISD, this day must be made up as well. This means April 17 is a contract day for teachers and all exempt district employees. In addition, it is also a duty day for all non-exempt employees. If you have questions regarding April 2 or April 17, please contact your campus principal or immediate supervisor.

Making Mathematical Thinking Visible |
Students from North Richland Middle School recently visited Snow Heights Elementary where they brought math to life for the elementary students. The project began when North Richland teacher James Gillespie asked his seventh- and eighth-grade algebra students to write books about math for children. The project ended up being a collaborative effort across disciplines. English teachers helped review parts of stories and taught editing techniques. The librarian taught how to make sure the graphics supported the story. The advanced academics specialist worked with the students on formatting and locating a publisher. The administration at both campuses allowed this cross-campus project to be a success. |
