Technology in Birdville ISD - All students succeed in a future they create.

"We have so much fun with technology in our classroom! We use our new Web site to blog about what we are reading, share strategies and make recommendations. My students get so excited to see their postings and respond to their friends' postings online. We have also used PowerPoint and PhotoStory to retell our favorite books in movie form. I love seeing my students fully engaged in the various learning experiences we have with using the laptops, or in the computer lab. They are always begging me to give them more time so they can add 'just one more thing' to their project, and they often ask if they can stay after class so they can continue working."

RHS Teachers uses Technology in Physic Class

Jim Richmond, Richland High School physics teacher, uses digital probes and computers for data collection in physics labs with a great improvement in lab results in a much shorter time. Still, time restrictions limited the amount of data that can be collected in one class period. With only a few trials, student errors would sometimes obscure the results.

This year, to increase the data samples, he used Google docs to produce a spreadsheet where all his classes could input their data. They used the science department laptops to collect the data and then logged into Google and entered the data in the spreadsheet. Instead of a graph of five data points for each group, students had a master graph with more than 150 points, clearly showing the trend of the data and points with obvious errors.

Richmond believes it was a worthwhile exercise showing the value of collaboration and need for many trials before making conclusions in scientific work.
