HCM eApplication Update If you saved the HCM eApplication in your favorites in Internet Explorer, it is necessary to save it again as a favorite. Smithfield Middle School Gifted and Talented Students
Congratulations to the sixth-grade gifted and talented students from Smithfield Middle School for advancing to the national level of the Sally Ride Science Toy Challenge competition in Alexandria, Virginia on May 16.
They designed and created a game called "The Alphabet Garden." This game teaches young children their alphabet letters and sounds, as well as sight words. As part of their research and field testing, the kids had special education students at one of the district's elementary schools play the game, and it was a big hit. The team also conducted a consumer research survey to gather ideas for improvements to their game before going to Virginia for the final judging. Of more than 200 entries from across the US and Canada, only about 70 were invited to the national competition in Virginia. Fourteen awards were given. Smithfield's team won Honorable Mention for design. Team members are: Annie Blakeslee, Sarah Grubb, Jaheir High, Abby Key, Trevor Sanders and Murphy Studebaker. Smithfield's coach is Karel Stewart. | |
