Springfield High School Senior Morgan Joyce Williams is Illinois' Poetry Out Loud State Champion

Illinois' 2010-2011 Poetry Out Loud State Finals took place Friday, March 11, 2011 in Springfield's Hoogland Center for the Arts. The Illinois Arts Council is pleased to announce that Morgan Joyce Williams, a senior at Springfield High School, has been named State Champion.

Williams recited "What Work Is" by Philip Levine, "A Hymn to God the Father," by John Donne, and "A Psalm of Life," by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. She will receive $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the national championship on April 28-29. 

Springfield High School also receives a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry books. A total of $50,000 in scholarships and school stipends will be awarded to winners at the national championship.

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation is also honored to provide travel support for regional and state finalists of Poetry Out Loud in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

April 20th Deadline for FY12 Program Grants, Grants to Arts Service Organizations, and Partners in Excellence Program Applications

Guidelines and applications are now available online for Fiscal Year 2012 (FY12) Program Grants, Grants to Arts Service Organizations, and Partners in Excellence Programs.

Grants are available to not-for-profit Illinois organizations conducting arts programming of high artistic merit. Applications may be submitted for General Operating Support or Project Support. Colleges and universities, and organizations whose primary services are not arts-related, may only apply for costs related to public arts programming activities. FY12 Program Grants support activities occurring between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012.

Announcing the 1st & 2nd Rounds of Fiscal Year 2011

1st Round: At the last tri-annual meeting of the Illinois Arts Council, February 23, 2011, the Council unanimously awarded 725 grants totaling over $7,567,938 in its first round of Fiscal Year 2011 grants. Access a full list of the first round of Fiscal Year 2011 grants

2nd Round: The Illinois Arts Council is also pleased to announce 102 grants totaling $148,000 awarded to Fiscal Year 2011's Individual Artist Support Initiative recipients. The Individual Artist Support Initiative was created to help Illinois artists realize a career goal, take advantage of a professional opportunity, or for the production and presentation of an artistic project.
