Poetry Out Loud Regional Competitions Statewide |
|
Local High School Students Reciting Great Poetry
The Illinois Arts Council invites all interested parties to attend Illinois' Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest regional competitions, taking place throughout the state from January 31 through February 19, 2009.
Poetry Out Loud is a free national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, encouraging youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. The program uses a pyramid structure in Illinois that advances winners from the classroom level to a school-wide competition, then to a regional competition, from there to the state final in Springfield this March, and ultimately to the National Finals in Washington, D.C., in April. Tens of thousands of students nationwide will participate in Poetry Out Loud this year, and events are free and open to the public.

One State: Together in the Arts RFP |
|
Lead a Session, Change the World!
On June 1 and 2, 2009 the Illinois Arts Alliance and the Illinois Arts Council will co-convene One State: Together in the Arts, the sixth biennial conference for arts leaders and practitioners in Illinois. The statewide conference attracts representatives - including individual artists - from the whole range of organization types, artistic disciplines, missions, and size. The conference will be held this year at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria, Illinois. The theme of Illinois' One State: Together in the Arts 2009 conference is See Change. All proposals should address some element of this theme, whether from the perspective of creating and sustaining effective internal organizational change, tuning-in to and working with the environmental changes in which arts administrators seek to thrive, or gauging and strengthening the local, national, and international impact of their work.
Proposals for conference sessions are welcome from anyone with a vision for how to create meaningful dialogue for the arts in Illinois within the context of our theme. Follow this link for more information and a PDF of the official One State: Together in the Arts Conference Session RFP.
