CCICT & CIPS Collaborate to Accredit BTM Programs
| |
via CCICT
CCICT and the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) have formed the Business Technology Management Accreditation Council (BTMAC) and are now offering program accreditation services to the BTM community. With over 120 accredited post-secondary computing programs in Canada and overseas, CIPS has been a leader in (voluntary) program accreditation since the early 1980's with a 90% renewal rate on accreditations. Clearly, institutions feel that accreditation is worth the effort.
BTMAC accreditation is a continuous self-improvement process and provides a systematic method to address program weaknesses or deficiencies, building a program's strengths. It also provides a credible, independently verifiable method to differentiate accredited programs from non-accredited programs that may not adhere to important industry standards. Graduates from a CIPS-accredited program are also eligible to receive the BTM professional certification, which fosters professionalism within the student body by exposing them to their professional association.
"As the Canadian leader in the accreditation of post-secondary IT education, CIPS welcomes this opportunity to share our expertise and knowledge. Accreditation not only promotes excellence within the organization but is also a basis for program comparability." Dr. Ken Takagaki (pictured above), CIPS Director of Accreditation.
The accreditation criteria are at the heart of the BTMAC process. For more details on the BTMAC program contact Gina van Dalen, Manager Professional Standards at CIPS.

Cloud for Small Business
| |
via Microsoft TechNet
Over the past few months, Damir and I have been traveling across the country leading IT camps. I have been particularly focused on delivering private cloud camps, which are 6-hour hands-on workshops that lead participants through what it means to create a private cloud from a virtualized environment. We work through tasks to deliver IT by standardizing services using templates, automating the delivery of those services and setting up a self-service portal where users can select the services they need (which are then delivered automatically using the pre-configured templates).
The folks attending these workshops are a mixed bag: some work for large organizations or are consultants to large organizations and others work for small organizations or are consultants to small organizations. I inevitably get asked from one of the small business IT people:"How does all this cloud stuff relate to what I'm doing from my users and customers?" The short answer is: It may not. At least not all the private cloud stuff we talk about in the workshop. However, there are definitely cloud services that you can offer your users and clients and it's definitely worth it, in my opinion, to understand the concepts behind the cloud model.
