What Ortho Pro Means to Me!
It's been less than a year since Cheryl (at left) lost her left leg above the knee and her right leg below the knee.
As an avid runner before the accident, she never doubted that she'd be running again some day. But, after she received her first pair of legs from another prosthetic facility she started to doubt she'd even be able to walk without a walker.
"I would fall, maybe 5 to 10 times a day!" she said, "It was so humiliating, not to mention painful - and very frightening! It got to the point where I would cry if I had to walk down a handicapped ramp. I was so discouraged and I didn't know what to do. But, then my friends Susie and Joey Russo referred me to Dr. Alan Gruskin in Fort Lauderdale who recommended that I see Terri at Ortho Pro."
After determining that Cheryl, 33, was a perfect candidate for an Otto Bock C-leg microprocessor knee, Terri and the staff at Ortho Pro battled Cheryl's insurance company to get them to approve her prostheses.
How does Cheryl feel about her new prostheses?
"I'm on a high you can't even imagine," she said, "I have never met a person who is as willing to help people as Terri is. My C-leg feels like it's a part of me. I don't fall down anymore and I even participated in the DOTS program that Ortho Pro hosted in February, so I could start learning how to run again!"
Terri's note: The C-leg provides patients like Cheryl with the stability they need to walk at various speeds, take on hills, slopes, uneven ground and even walk step over step down stairs without the fear of stumbling associated with other prosthetic knees. For more info on the C-leg, click here. |
