 Andy MurrayGreetings!

TopHaving watched the end of the Andy Murray tennis match on the evening when he played late under the new Wimbledon roof, it struck me just how determined he was. Despite an opponent who was distinctly 'on form', Murray just knuckled under and eventually won. He never gave up.
That's how I want you all to feel about life and business. There is no doubt that life and business has tough moments but stick at it, be determined to succeed and you will.
OK, I could have chosen Federer and that incredibly long final set in the final against Roddick. Andy Murray is useful though because, would you take bets on him not coming back even stronger next year and winning through? I would not! You could say that life is equally unforgiving as tennis in that Murray did not win the ultimate prize. You could view it as not the same in that in life and business there there is always more than one winner. It's up to you. In business and life there is massive room for us all to be winners if we choose to be! Don't forget, also, that Murray and Roddick still won a cheque which we would all like to receive!

This month sees the launch of a new Business Partnership with myself, Hannah Sookias from the Write Solution and Ian Shipley of ISPhotographic HANDAVIAN - Experienced Realism for your Business- please see the article below. We are winning against this recession, we want you to do so also.

Please look at the coaching offer I am making for the summer period at the bottom of the page. Give yourself, or someone you know, a treat ready for the autumn. You will value it for many years hence. Let me show you a couple of quotes from a client. The first, a week after a one hour coaching session:

'I am more than incredibly delighted to report that I've had a brilliant week! I've slept and slept, had some very positive outcomes from ALL my tricky situations faced this week....What a result!

Then the same client this week, four months later:

'..I am sleeping exceptionally well! Even in the heatwave...Whatever you did, you did it well because since we met at .... I've improved my approach to life in general. Having realised my 'worth', I've found a serenity which works for me and in the process a new job at ...... which could have been written for me. So how good is that! Please feel free to use my endorsement, if it helps in any way....'

Please read on and I trust you will enjoy this month's edition......

Setting Goals
7 tips for setting valuable goals

BananaWhy use a picture of a banana to discuss setting goals? Well, it is a good representation of some of the key principles if setting goals that I'd like to share with you.

  1. Set goals which satisfy values. A banana has to be peeled to find the value within. If you set a goal, for example to earn £50,000 a year, OK but what value in you does that satisfy? The money in itself will never be enough on its own to have meaning. What will it enable you to do? Feel good? Know you can buy some extra's? Enable you to have relaxing holidays etc. etc. ? So peel off the outside of your goals to set out the core inner value. You will be far more likely to reach them then.
  2. Don't throw away the inside and keep the peel by mistake, it will not taste well! If you ignore the value of your goal and only keep the surface you are likely to throw it away and not achieve anything. You eat the inside of the banana and it becomes part of you. So should your goals. So make your goals part of everything you do. Don't throw away the peel put it on the compost so it contributes to the next goals growing successfully.
  3. A banana is curved. Set your goals knowing that you may not be able to travel a straight line to reach your goal. You may have to take a curved route so be prepared when you set your goals.
  4. Your goals, year on year, if, in part financial, will not necessarily follow a straight-line plan your goals realistically to reflect this.
  5. Of course, by inference in the last point I am suggesting you set goals for more than one year hence.
  6. A banana is part of a bunch - set more than one goal, you can have goals for all parts of your life. Include your work, leisure, family etc. This way you will be able to achieve better work/life balance.
  7. Once you begin to eat a banana then you must eat it all or it will go off. leave it and it goes brown and becomes useless. So it is with goals once you have set a goal then pursue it until it is reached or it will cease to be of value to you.

The Rule of Seven
Marketing advice

7Dr. Jeffrey Lant formulated the Rule of Seven which states that to penetrate a market and in particular, the consciousness of purchasers within that market, you have to contact those people seven times within an 18 month period.

I think in today's environment this could be an even higher figure when you consider the amount of messages we are given every single day!

The message is, to gain business, a number of contacts are needed - so keep persevering.

How to be creative
Do you get stuck for ideas?

IdeaHere is a simple technique for those occasions when you are stuck for ideas!

Let me use the article to the left of this. I wanted to talk about goal setting but was not sure of how to go about it in a way which has more interest than normal. So, what I did was write down the words goal-setting on the left hand side of a blank piece of paper and then at random chose banana to write on the right hand side.

Then I brainstormed words associated with goal-setting and wrote them down around 'goal setting' and then did the same for banana.

Next I looked at ways of connecting the two, drew lines between the two relevant words and 'hey presto!' I had a theme and a connection which I have used.

You can use entirely random words. For example say you want to market something, for example a computer service. Choose a random word (any word that comes to your head) and then work on making connections between the service and your random word. I guarantee that new ideas for marketing will flow from it.

Book Review
Think and Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill

Think & grow richThis is now quite an old book having been written originally in 1937. However, as it says on the front of the version I have read recently, it could be regarded as the, 'The Inspirational Classic.'
It is all about how you think, a subject well worth considering. So much of what people think is self-defeating and so powerful as such. This book shows how to use that power in a positive direction.
Well worth a read.
As usual - click on the picture and you will be able to purchase it from Amazon via my website.

How many of you, I wonder, own your own business or want to own your own business?
Think about the lack of information and support available to you to help set up and continue your business.
  • Where do you go to seek unbiased advice and support?
  • How often, because you are so busy keeping the business going, do you 'lose sight of the wood for the trees'?
  • Do you sometimes get stuck deciding what to do next?
  • Is the advice you get from certain sources more about the adviser protecting their business or investment than it is about helping you grow and develop?
  • How much money did you spend when you set up which with hindsight you need not have spent?
  • How much time did you lose waiting for non-existent returns on the investment you made?

HANDAVIAN has been set up by Myself of IntegritUs, Hannah Sookias of the Write Solution and Ian Shipley of IS Photographic to provide new and growing companies with a source of really experienced and practical advice and support.

Come to us and you will receive:

  • Complete confidentiality
  • Advice, support, ideas from three successful and experienced business people.
  • The knowledge of three people who have been there, got the T-shirt and are, in fact, still wearing it!
  • At least two of the Founding Partners available to you at any one time for support.
  • Flexible practical approach which goes beyond the financial and legal advice currently available.
  • A team dedicated to producing you results faster and more efficiently than you could without seeking our support.
