August Tipsletter
Advice  and Tips from IntegritUs Ltd
Greetings!

landscape 1You know I'm sure that time is getting shorter? Or is it my age? It seems only a week or so ago that the last tipsletter went out!
Hope you are all enjoying summer. Is it just me with 'rose tinted' spectacles or is this summer OK? So many people seem to be saying that it is wet and a poor summer. Doesn't seem so to me.It's been warm and comfortable with a nice balance of rain and sun. I've put a nice picture in to represent my feelings.

You can see the articles in this month's edition just to the right of this introduction. I like the one on banishing needless worries - it may seem odd but it will work for you - try it! It's amazing how powerful the mind is.

500% ROI - would you take it?
Presenting
Did you now that in the published literature, the minimum calculated return on investment for the employment of coaching is between 500% and 600%. This is just a monetary measure. The return in terms of motivation, development, satisfaction, teamwork and many of the 'soft' skills is very hard to measure but very very valuable to individuals and organisations.
Coaching is really a great way to drive business forward and gain a real competitive edge. It is also becoming very popular and an almost essential way of supporting people who have to deal with modern complexities in life.

To receive a free copy of a paper 'The Case for Coaching' please send your e-mail address to daveglees@integritusltd.co.uk. This paper is a fully referenced document summarising the case for employing a coach.

Simple Marketing Tips

Integrity

Here, in no particular order are a few practical marketing tips I'd like to share with you. I will do everything I can to help you drive your business forward and be successful. Please remember 'my success is your success!'

  • Do you have a website? If not, I should invest in one - a web presence is the way forward today. They can be set up very economically.
  • If you do, make sure you get the best out of it. For example maximise your listing in search engines - look for their free services eg Google Local Business Centre http://www.google.com/local/add
  • Try 'adwords' with Google. This places an advert on Google list pages.
  • This Tipsletter is an example of e-mail marketing - it has paid for itself about ten times over in just eight months for me. Try it! I can set one up for you now - see news above right.
  • Write editorials - there are publications very keen to take new material. For those of you in the Chamber of Commerce - editorials are welcomed in Chamber Publications.
  • For those of you with answer phones and sophisticated 'on hold' phone systems - record items about your products for the listener - much more interesting than horrible tinny music - will be more productive as well.
  • Give advice for free - advice can be as valuable (often more valuable) than giving away merchandising materials such as pens and pads etc. and is a lot cheaper to supply. You will never give all your secrets away and you will be remembered for being supportive and helpful.

De-stress - Banishing needless worries
Weird stuff that really does work!

Do you have recurring thoughts, worries, doubts in your head that get in the way? Do they sometimes either make you feel uncomfortable or even change what you were going to do as a result? Ever thought "why did I bother so much about that, it was so un-necessary!"

If you do, you are not alone.

There is a solution which works really well and what is more, you can do it for yourself without anyone knowing you've done it!

Try this! Read the article first so that you know what to do, then follow the instructions:

Start by choosing the thought which recurs that you want to get rid of.

  • Take three or four long, slow, comfortable, relaxing deep breaths in through your mouth and out through your nose.
  • Relax.
  • Close your eyes and imagine a pedal operated waste bin which shuts firmly when you release the pedal. Put it on the floor in front of you.
  • Now, keeping your eyes closed, take the thought you want to get rid of and drop it in the open pedal bin - all of it, words, emotions, feelings, sounds, images completely and allow the lid shut on it all with a bang!
  • Notice how good it feels to be without the thought!
  • Seal the bin - weld it shut so it can't open again.
  • Now move the bin about six feet away from you behind you to the right or the left - you choose.
  • Notice how much better you feel!
  • Now make the bin really light and send it as far away from you as you possibly can - use a rocket, kick it, hit it away with a baseball bat - whatever - far far away so it is just a pin point in the far distance behind you.
  • Become aware of how good you now feel knowing how much freer you are and more able to operate confidently and positively!
  • Enjoy, relax and come back!

Do you procrastinate?

Something that most of us do to some degree or other is put things off to another time. The problem with this is that some things get 'put off' rather to much or too often and end up becoming a real problem. Have you noticed it is always the things you don't like doing or things you feel you 'have to do' that get left. Things like doing your Tax returns, keeping your records up-to-date etc. all can cause problems and cost you money in the long run if you don't take action. There are ways though, to help yourself with this. Here are some things you can do - the list is by no means exhaustive but at least may give you some ideas:

  • Read 'eat that frog' by Brian Tracy - this little book will give you some great advice on getting things done. Click on the link to get a copy for youself.
  • One tip from the book is - every day start off by doing something you do not really want to do and complete it. You know that things you want to do take less time and are more enjoyable so save these until later and use them as a reward.
  • Remember the Important/Urgent matrix from Issue No. 4 (April - see below). Use this matrix to decide what priorities to give to the tasks you have to complete.
  • PresentingPlan specific times in your diary to allocate for tasks you must complete. Never cancel these times unless the need to complete the task disappears. The only thing you can do is move the time in your diary by a maximum of 24hrs and only once!
  • Practise! New habits take some time to generate - you need to work at it.
  • Write down lists of tasks (use the matrix method) and write down the deadline for achieving these tasks - if you write it down there is a much greater likelihood of you meeting the deadline and remembering to do the task.
  • Do not make excuses for yourself - decide the reasons for needing to complete the task!
  • Avoid the 'waiting for perfection' syndrome. It will never be perfect. Go for it now! Attempting to get everything right can be another form of procrastination.
Book Review - Guerrilla Marketing

Guerilla MarketingThis book by Jay Conrad Levinson is excellent. I think it should be required reading for all small business owners. It is crammed full of great ideas about how to market in today's environment.
Forget about spending huge amounts of money on getting your message out. Read this book and you will be inspired to market in very different ways to the conventional at lower cost! Let's face it, those of us in the small business world do not have massive budgets but still need to market.
The book is one of many excellent books from the same Author. The book is American based but is still very relevant for UK markets - I've got loads of ideas from it myself.

As is usual, cick on the picture of the book or HERE to go to my website and click on the picture of the book to buy it from Amazon at normal Amazon prices.
