Microsoft may have finally got it right. I particularly have been a "closet" mac fan but after installing Windows 7 with out a hiccup and seeing the vast improvements first hand I am very impressed. Let's go over the most noticeable improvements.
Improved Speed and Performance, Increased Battery Life, and Superb Desktop Management and Usability.
This month we will highlight the most visible improvements outlined below relating to the Desktop Management and usability.
Peek - New in Windows 7, Peek gives you the power of X-ray vision, so you can peer past all your open windows straight to the Windows 7 desktop. Simply move your mouse over the little transparent rectangle in the lower right corner of your screen-and watch open windows instantly turn transparent, revealing all your hidden icons and gadgets. 156 people like this Gadgets
Keep an eye on the weather, news, and traffic. Run an endless slideshow of your favorite photos. All with these simple desktop programs.
o That's a fast way to find files on your desktop, or get a peek at the latest traffic report. To quickly reveal a buried window, just hover over its thumbnail in the taskbar.
Action Center - Peeved by pop-ups? With Windows XP, you get alerts right when the system needs your attention. Windows Vista brings more order to the alerts, and in some cases, more alerts than people want. So people asked us for more control over the number and timing of alerts. With Windows 7, alerts are much more under your command.
Action Center gives you one place to go to address system notifications and tasks, and to keep your PC running smoothly. If Windows wants your attention, the Action Center icon appears in the taskbar. Click it and you'll see alerts and suggested fixes for any problems.
Windows 7 Taskbar - The new Windows 7 taskbar is still the same familiar place for switching between windows. But now it's easier to see, more flexible, and more powerful. For instance, in Windows 7 you can "pin" favorite programs anywhere on the taskbar for easy access. Not crazy about the icon lineup? Now you can rearrange them any way you like by clicking and dragging. Finally, there are new ways to preview windows.

Aero - Aero visual hallmarks include subtle animations and translucent glass windows, which you can personalize. Pick from the included color palette, or create your own custom tints with the color mixer.
Snap - Snap is a quick (and fun) new way to resize open windows, simply by dragging them to the edges of your screen. Depending on which edge you choose-top or bottom, left or right-the window will expand vertically, fill the screen, or you can even position windows side by side. Snap makes reading, organizing, and comparing windows a...well, you get the picture.
Shake - Ever need to cut through a cluttered desktop and quickly focus on a single window? Now with Windows 7, you can just click, hold down, and give your mouse a shake. Voila! Every open window except that one instantly disappears. Jiggle again-and your windows are back. (Who says an old mouse can't learn a new trick?)
