United Way of Anderson County Recognizes Volunteers of the Year

The United Way of Anderson County (UWAC) held its annual Campaign Celebration at the Oak Ridge Doubletree on February 18, 2010.  Community leaders, nonprofit partners, loyal donors and volunteers were all in attendance to hear the results of their collective efforts.

Recognized at the event for their outstanding support of the UWAC 2009 Campaign Kick-Off Celebration were Oak Ridge Utility District's (ORUD) Lauren Turpin, Rebecca Mulligan, Nick Morris, Angie Gallaher, Jodi Jernigan, Emily Waddell and Harrison Parks which garnered them with the prestigious Volunteers of the Year award. General Manger Ben Andrews was appreciated for his company's generous support of ORUD employee involvement in UWAC activities.

"This group of exceptional individuals went particularly above and beyond to ensure the Kick-Off Celebration was a huge success with their behind the scenes preparation," said Campaign Chair Leigha Edwards.  "Companies with volunteerism programs, like the Oak Ridge Utility District, benefit the community, their employees and the companies themselves. We are extremely appreciative that they take such an active part in the UWAC. Not only do volunteers bring their talent and time, but help bring to light the ongoing needs in the surrounding community and the important work of the United Way of Anderson County and our partner agencies."

The campaign raised $1,385,481 which will supply stable funding to 32 agencies and assist over 43,500 community members in three core areas of concern: providing basic needs, developing our youth and enabling seniors to live with honor.

tournament will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Oak Ridge Country Club.
The half-day event includes lunch, a scramble format tournament and dinner.
It's a great opportunity to golf, meet others in the community and support the
United Way of Anderson County (UWAC).

As with the previous years, net proceeds will go to support the 32 agencies that
partner with the UWAC to ensure the needs of Anderson County are met in
three core areas of concern:  Providing basic human needs - Enabling seniors to
live with honor - Developing our youth.

We ask that you continue the tradition of the tournament by showing your support in the following ways (which provide a full tax deduction):

Individual sponsorship is encouraged!

Donate raffle and competition prizes or auction items - We will display a personal or company name in the appropriate area, as well as list in the event program!

Become a hole sponsor - What better way to honor that special golf lover than with a hole sponsorship!  We will display a personal name or a company name on the course and in the event program!

Get a Team Together - Friends, family, business partner or just on your own. If you love golf, this is the tournament to attend!

The United Way tournament is one of the premier tournaments in Anderson County.  Sponsors already committed to this year's event include WSI Oak Ridge, UT Battelle, SAIC, USEC, Rick Hughes, DMD, Richard G. Hall, DDS, Edward D. Jones and Company, David B. Lee, DDS, as well as Centennial Village Development, LLC and Ben's Home Centers.

We hope you will consider supporting this fun and worthwhile event. For more information on how you can participate, contact Lisa Lanphear, Resource Development Director at 483-4831 or
