Serving Community, it's what we do

Leigha and Bobby
2009 Campaign Chair Leigha Edwards and  Loaned Executive Bobby Sass Jr.

                    Answering the Call

I am particularly struck by Bobby Sass Jr.'s attitude as he is called up to serve our nation. As a UWAC Loaned Executive for the last two years, we know Bobby is a true asset to our community. And now we see that he is a true asset to our nation. When asked about how he feels being called to active duty, he smiles and says simply "I'm ready."

Bobby reflects the same commitment and willingness to serve that we almost take for granted here in East Tennessee. We all find our own way of serving each other. And as we enter into this glorious time of year, let us all be mindful of the many blessings we have and be grateful.

I am grateful for all of you who are stepping up to make this year's campaign a success. We are not done yet, but we are right where we expected to be. Our goal is to ensure that our community partners remain vibrant and capable of serving our neighbors in need. So, as our volunteers call on you to help us in the stretch run of this years campaign, I want to thank all of you who respond by saying simply, "We're ready."

ADFAC Plans for
Annual Warm Fuzzies Program

Christmas for Teens

ADFAC is gearing up for their 19th Annual Warm Fuzzies program which provides Christmas for teens from low income families.  The program was developed to address the unfortunate fact that there are many parents who are not financially able to purchase gifts for their children - such funds have to go toward food and shelter.

The Warm Fuzzies Program assists a targeted group during the Christmas season.  Many holiday programs cut off at age 12 - which allows this program to meet a critical need in our community.

The program is requesting two types of support this year:  monetary gifts or filled stockings/gift bags.  Suggested items:

·         Gift cards in $5 & $10 values (up to $50 each) to area merchants (retail & discount stores, movie theaters, & restaurants)
·         Stocking items:  jewelry, stuffed animals, cosmetics, calendars, magazines, playing cards, sports cards, hand video games, socks, magazines, candy, gum & toiletries

Groups and individuals are invited to help ADFAC help others this holiday season through this worthwhile program.    All donations are due by Monday, December 16, 2009.

Last year, 150 teens received Christmas gifts through Warm Fuzzies.  Eligibility guidelines include Anderson County residency, meeting income level requirements and teens must be 13-18 years old and attending school.  Families believing they qualify for this program are encouraged to call 483-6028 to determine if they are eligible.

Anyone interested in supporting this program should contact Annie Cacheiro, ADFAC Special Projects Coordinator, at 483-6028, ext. 106 or adfacannie@bellsouth.net.
