Greetings!
Chaplain Ken Schlenker, MDiv
Hope this finds you well.  It has been awhile since we were able to send out our last newsletter as there has been a lot of things happening with NCCD.

In order to facilitate all that is occurring, we have reformatted our newsletter so that you can quickly look at each of the Article titles to "zero in" on your area of interest.

Please take a few moments to look over our new newsletter format, drop us a line with your thoughts, your prayer requests and stay healthy and safe.

As you read this newsletter, I trust you will agree that our Lord is moving in and through National Center for Chaplain Development.  It is our belief that NCCD has been thrust into the forefront of a new movement of God that is mobilizing the church to leave the building to be His ambassadors in the local community.  There are seven (7) sectors that influence the direction (good or bad) of our local communities:
  1. Government
  2. Education
  3. Business
  4. Media
  5. Arts & Entertainment
  6. Church
  7. Family
National Center for Chaplain Development's intention is to train, equip, mobilize and release chaplains city by city into the communities they serve becoming ambassadors to unite the sacred with the secular.  If this resonates in your heart, as it does ours, would you prayerfully consider becoming a monthly partner of this ministry with both your prayers and financial support?

National Center for Chaplain Development has a secure Online Giving section of it's website where you may setup both recurring and one-time donations. Perhaps you might even consider a one-time end of year giving ? In any event thank you for all of the support that you have already extended to NCCD.  May God continue to bless you.

Things are getting pretty exciting for NCCD in Riverside, CA!

We have been working with Sr. Chaplain Steve Ballinger, CEO of Living Shield Ministries (LSM) as the representative for NCCD in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Formerly a pastor at Harvest Christian Fellowship for many years, Steve felt a call of God to launch LSM as a full time chaplain ministry responding to both the community as well as to first responders.  Steve is the Sr Chaplain for Riverside City Police & Fire.

Living Shield Ministries (LSM) and National Center for Chaplain Development (NCCD) are "kindred spirits" and NCCD fully supports and endorses the calling of God on Steve's life and ministry.

Here are just a few of the many projects that we are currently in collaboration
  • During the week of the IFOC training that this past July, where we trained 40 more chaplains at Harvest Christian Fellowship, the Riverside Police Chief came and greeted the people.  While he was here, Steve and I were able to have lunch with him.  During that time we shared our desire to see a Community Chaplain program begin in Riverside, and eventually spread out to Riverside County and the Inland Empire.  Since that time the Chief has approved our involvement as a recognized, standalone, 501(c)3 agency in Riverside.
  • The Lord has placed on the heart of Steve's wife, a longing to reach out to the spouses of first-responders.  She and four other ladies (all married to first responders) have begun a ministry called "Women Behind the Badge."  They hope to bring a sense of understanding, and a safe environment for women to seek emotional support and spiritual guidance in light of the challenges they face living with first responders.  Through their teachings and group discussions they hope to enhance the relationships with their spouse and families.  This ministry will be an offshoot of LSM and supported by NCCD.
  • On September 10 we met with the Assistant Director of the Division of Victim Services within the Riverside District Attorney's office.  They are very interested in having chaplains work within their Division being there for victims of domestic violence, as well as for their staff personnel. Since that meeting a Memorandum of Understanding has been put into process to provide  chaplains to the Division of Victim Services.  Chaplains will be written into the procedures to touch every victim as they pass through the Family Justice Center.
  • We have also met with the Riverside County Deputy District Attorney to discuss bringing chaplains into the schools in Riverside.  The DA is very excited to see chaplains on the campuses and wants to work with us.  We are moving forward.
  • Riverside has put in place a model called Police and Clergy Partnership (PCP) that meets once a month with Police Officials and local clergy.  Living Shield Ministries and National Center for Chaplain Development are both involved with this association to bring chaplaincy into the local secular community.
  • The Department of Social Services (DPSS) is also very interested in providing chaplains to their personnel within the Child Protective Services (CPS) Department.  We will be meeting with them later this month to begin developing an MOU.
  • Earlier in October we had a meeting at Harvest with those who are interested in chaplaincy, to discuss the vision of the development of a local community based Chaplain Corps, the training we offer, and the opportunities that are being made available.  We had over 80 people attend the meeting (many from different churches).  Of those 80 people, 65 people (so far) have filled out an Application of Interest.
All we can say at NCCD is to God be the glory!  WOW!
"Not One More Child" National Child Safety Initiative
Not One More Child

NOT ONE MORE CHILD:

It Takes a Community to Protect Our Children
The Initiative partners train volunteers from community partner agencies to become certified instructors to create local ownership of the Initiative and reasonable independence and sustainability. The programs compliment community policing efforts as well as parental engagement and violence reduction programs in schools. Recommended Initiative Certification Training participants include the following: law enforcement officers, teachers and other educators, passionate parents and volunteers as well as family resource providers and counselors.

National Center for Chaplain Development is a proud partner, providing training in radKIDS® and Samantha's Pride in the "Not One More Child" Child Safety Initiative. Contact us to learn how to train children and parents in your community to empower them to stop the cycle of violence.

PRIDE Program Facilitators offer public presentations focused on raising awareness and prevention education as well as an opportunity to join a Neighborhood PRIDE to ensure continued vigilance for child protection. Similar to the Neighborhood Watch model, PRIDE Members submit a background check application and take an oath to work together to model safe parenting behaviors and provide outdoor supervision of children before and after school, at community events and parks.

The fourth & final phase begins in January with graduation in November of 2010. Please keep me in prayer as I continue through this process.
White As Wool Ministries
White as Wool Minstries
One of our chaplain's wife has founded a ministry called White as Wool Ministries.  National Center for Chaplain Development is supporting and assisting in the development of this ministry.

"White as Wool is a ministry of Christian women who have suffered from the choice of abortion. Not only have we each quietly suffered from this tragic choice to abort our babies, but we each have also found healing and forgiveness. We have each been set free from the guilt and the shame. White as Wool Ministries is dedicated to helping those that are suffering quietly and alone from their choice of abortion. f you have had an abortion... and your heart is telling you ''No one will ever understand my grief...' why not give us a call at (800) 750-3771." --Lisa Musil, Founder
