From Ken Sande, President of Peacemaker Ministries
|
I've long admired the ministry of Ken Sande of Peacemaker Ministries as he and his team apply biblical principles of peacemaking to bring healing to churches and families. Here's what Ken said this week about my new book, Handoff:
"HANDOFF is a desperately needed and superbly written resource. It gives hope and practical advice on how to transform self-absorbed young people into the godly Christian, business, and political leaders our country needs."

Handoff as a reading project for your group?
|
Many Christian schools, churches and book groups have chosen Handoff as a reading project for members of their team. Since it's divided into short, bite-size chunks with lots of practical applications, it's perfect for busy people who still want to learn and grow.
Wendell Meadows, headmaster of First Assembly Christian School in Memphis, TN says:
Your book, Handoff, is exactly what I was looking for as a summer reading project for my entire faculty and staff. It is filled with practical advice and inspirational stories that will challenge and motivate our teachers as we prepare for the 2008-09 school year. Several of my staff have already read your book and have given it high praise. We are excited as to what we believe God is going to do through our team as we mentor our students and strive to successfully pass the baton of Truth and Righteousness to them. Thanks, Jeff, for your dedication and commitment to passing the baton to this next generation. Wendell Meadows
To make this easier for you, we've set up a "case price" of $9 per book. Click here to find out more.

So...you don't know enough to be a good mentor? Try these 10.5 ideas.
|
"I've never been to Bible college or seminary. I don't know enough to be useful as a mentor." If you've ever found yourself saying that, I think you'll find this message humbling, convicting and encouraging.
You'll find it humbling because claiming to "not know enough" is the main excuse given by most of the leaders God chose in Scripture. Moses said "I'm no good as a public speaker." Gideon said "I'm the least man in the least tribe of all of Israel." Isaiah said "I am a man of unclean lips."
You'll find it convicting because of God's response to these Scriptural heroes. God didn't feel sorry for them. In fact, He was angry. Why? Because in their fear they tried to diminish the significance of God's design. They thought their "self-abasement" was humility, but it was actually sin.
Of course God knows our limitations. He gave them to us. It is through our weaknesses that He is strong.
You'll find it encouraging because there are at least eleven things you can do right now to create "mentor moments" with those who need your influence:
1. You can listen: "Tell me about what's important to you..." 2. You can give a blessing: "Has anyone ever told you that you have the gift of ___?" 3. You can affirm: "Here's something about you that makes a great deal of difference to me..." 4. You can be transparent: "I've made mistakes in my life and I'd hate to see you go down that same path..." 5. You can pray: "I'm not sure what to do either. Can I pray with you about it?" 6. You can encourage: "I know it's tough but I know you can do it." 7. You can teach: "May I share with you a Scripture verse that has been important to me?" 8. You can sponsor: "I know someone who can help. Would you be interested in my putting you in touch with them?" 9. You can admonish: "You were running a good race. Who cut in on you?" 10. You can love: "No matter what, I'll be here." 10.5 Failing all else, you can just walk alongside: "Let's go together."
Perhaps there's a person on your mind right now. Don't delay--make the phone call!
