  • New Rental Product - Knee Walker

Greetings!

The focus of this newsletter is on Mobility. We have provided a reference on batteries for you and your clients, a scooter reference sheet that summarizes 28 scooters, and a review of the Pegasus scooter (a new product that we are very impressed with). We are excited about the new Pathfinder Knee Walker, a really innovative product for those recovering from a foot or ankle injury.

We look forward to providing you with useful information throughout the year. Please contact us at any time if you have any comments, questions or topics you want covered by an inservice by emailing kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com.

Use it - Charge it

DO NOT run down completely sealed gel batteries used in power mobility devices in an effort to improve the life of the batteries. They are not the same as those batteries in other smaller devices such as laptops, phones, or cameras. Follow our battery charging handout or call and ask. We've seen batteries last less than a year and more than 5 years and the starting point for longer battery life is always proper charging and use.

Scooter Reference Sheet

Pride Celebrity 10DX Basics for a prospective scooter user to consider:
  • What size of person is the user and where do they want to go?
  • Will it be used on public transport or HandyDART? - Keep the length under 48" and 3 wheels are better
  • Where will it be stored and charged? Is this place secure?
Scooters should be demo'd as every model is different. Check out our updated Scooter Reference Sheet for a listing of models to trial.

Pegasus - Product Evaluation
Pegasus
New products are introduced every day and our evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of these products is always our primary concern. Last year, Invacare introduced the Pegasus Scooter. Our initial impressions were that it was a well thought out product. It has turned out to be a very safe and reliable option for users who don't want to use public transport with their scooter. Here's what we like... and the Pegasus Product Feature so that you can learn more.

New Product - Pathfinder Knee Walker

Pathfinder Rental Rates $40 per week / $80 per month

Used for: Recovery from foot or ankle surgery or injury
Stability: Of the knee walkers we have evaluated, the Pathfinder offers the best stability (which is offset by a larger turning radius. It doesn't make a sharp turn and requires back and forth "driving" like parallel parking.)  Safety: Requires good balance, has a good hand brake.
What customers have said: They love it. We've rented this several times now and all reports have been positive.
