Greetings!

Happy New Year! We start 2012 with a new head-to-head challenge: infrared heat vs standard heat systems for lift chairs. We're inviting you to be the contestant. See our dates below.

With New Year resolutions aimed at being healthier, we have updated our walker reference sheet to include new items and our favorite five walkers. We've also expanded it to include a quick one page summary of forearm gutter walkers.

January also brings new lower pricing on the SelectAir and SelectAir Max low air loss mattresses at $4995 and $5995. SelfCare rents these low air loss mattress replacement systems as well as the Hybrid Select. See our product feature on the SelectAir Max.

Over 100 therapists attended our December Christmas Luncheons. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate the holidays and end of the year with us. Special thanks to all our suppliers who contributed the great gift cards (and the latex pillow) for our Christmas draw.

Lift chairs ready to compete

SelfCare now has infrared heat available in lift chairs. The soothing, enveloping warmth of infrared heat feels like a warm, sunny day. We invite you to come and feel the difference between the standard heat (which includes massage) and the far infrared heat. The main differences are:

Far Infrared Heat	Standard Heat
Temperature adjustment in hand control	On or off - no adjustment
Heat source in back, mainly lumbar	Heat source in lumbar area
Heat in leg area	No heat in leg area
Timer is set for heat to be on	No timer
Higher cost $450	Lower cost from $100

Each of the stores will have lift chairs with the two types of heat to trial. The schedule is:

North Vancouver: January 10 to 20
Vancouver: January 23 to 27
Surrey: January 30 to February 3

What is Infrared Heat?

Most heat sources attempt to heat the space while infrared heat which is caused by light gives warmth to objects, not space. It's like the difference between being directly in the sunlight versus sitting in the shade.

Gutter attachments offer specialized solutions for users who have difficulty gripping the walker handle due to a stroke, arthritis, or a broken arm. Gutter attachments provide a walking aid but can't support the weight of the user in the same manner as a platform walker developed for gait training. Here are 4 gutter attachment options.

SelectAir Max Low Air Loss Mattress Product Feature

The SelectAir Max is a true low air loss mattress using a blower pump to push air though tiny holes on the top of the mattress baffles. This air dissipates the excess moisture that collects under the vapour permeable cover. It provides extra features in addition to the base features of the SelectAir Mattress. These are:

Auto comfort which sets the level of air in the mattress based on the weight of the patient
System lock to prevents unwanted changes to the mattress air setting
Pulsation in 1, 7 or 15 minutes cycles for comfort

SelfCare stocks the SelectAir Max for rental at $595 plus $50 rental for the standard cover. As an alternative, the cover can be purchased for $617 or the SelectProtect cover purchased for $995 when bed rails are not going to be used with the mattress. The SelectAir Max has new lower pricing at $5995.
