SelfCare

October 20, 2011

Greetings!

In this issue, we look at foam mattress innovations and specifically the changes and new products introduced by Essential Medical Products (BFF). Most of the LTC mattresses have been redesigned or upgraded and the two new gel-infused mattresses offer exciting, cooler options.

Ever been faced with trying to talk someone into the safety of the transfer bench for a seriously small bathroom? Maybe one of our Head to Head challengers will be your solution.

Join us with well wishes to Pamela Shah on her maternity leave and welcome to Adam Kelly in Surrey.

If a specific new product sparks your interest, let me know (kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com) and I'll include it in a product comparison or feature in the next e-newsletter.

We look forward to providing you with useful information throughout the year. Please contact us at any time if you have any comments, questions or topics you want covered by an inservice by emailing kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com.

Mattresses

LTC Mattress With so many changes to the LTC mattresses, we have worked with Essential Medical Products to produce an update comparing the previous mattresses to the new styles and products. The main changes are:
  • Sensus was a brand of visco elastic (or memory) foam. For mattresses which had memory foam, the "Sensus" grade has been replaced with Aerus. Aerus has been developed to provide a "cooler" sleep surface through a new process that provides increased air circulation by approximately 20%. Still very supportive, the Aerus memory foam may feel slightly softer than the old "Sensus" as it has been reticulated to allow for higher air flow.
  • Gel has been introduced into 2 mattresses using 2 methods:
    • Gel In - Gel is infused in the foam giving it the speckled look. It produces the coolest (temperature) foam mattress and is firmer than the Gel Form. (LTC 8500)
    • Gel Form - Gel provides a honeycomb or matrix pattern into the top comfort layer. This makes it softer than the Gel In mattress but also warmer. (LTC 8000)
  • The core (or base) of 4 of the new mattresses has zoned cuts so the cuts in the foam that go across the mattress are narrower (or thinner) in the heel, hips and shoulder areas. The contour cuts in the other cores are evenly spaced over the base. The 4 new mattresses with the contour cut cores are:
    • LTC 3500 Active Care
    • LTC 3700 Conformity
    • LTC 8000 Gel-In
    • LTC 8500 Gel-Form

SelfCare has the above four new mattresses available for demo.

Head to Head - Small Bathroom Challenge

Swivel Bath Seat In this new Head to Head, we examine 2 similar swivel seat bath products. They are:
Both of these products are a compact solution to the small bathroom where the legs of the transfer bench would be an obstacle.
