June 15, 2011

Greetings!

Nothing beats a soothing, hot bath (especially in the chilly air of our thus far non summer)! Bath lifts are the perfect companion. Portable, rentable and easy to use, battery operated bath lifts can bring independence back to many clients. Check below for an interesting alternative recommended by Gillian Tregidgo, OT.

Welcome to the MyOn and MyOn Active, two great wheelchair alternatives - the MyOn as an entry level lightweight or for heavier clients the MyOn Active with its no charge heavy duty option.

While the videos are great to watch, you really don't get the impact until you try the Barton Convertible Transfer Chair. It really is very easy for one caregiver to transfer a patient from the bed to the chair with no lifting.

Go Canucks Go!!! Check out our Canucks fever photo and a thank you received by the North Shore Store.

We look forward to providing you with useful information throughout the year. Please contact us at any time if you have any comments, questions or topics you want covered by an inservice by emailing kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com.

Bath Lift Reference Sheet - June 2011

Mangar BathingBath lifts are a great option for many clients who find enjoyment in a good soak in the tub and don't want the expense and chilly wait for the tub to fill that is required with a walk in tub. (See the Bath Lift Reference Sheet for a list of updated features and the Archives: Walk in Tub vs. Bath Lift Reference Sheet for a discussion about their differences).

Thanks to Gillian Tregidgo, OT for providing information on the Mangar Bathing Cushion which she has previously recommended. A large air inflatable pillow for sitting on in the tub, it reminds me of the Renaissance bed overlay. It fills with air to the height of the tub so the user can sit on it and gently lower themselves into the tub using the simple hand control. Great for clients with delicate skin since it is very soft or clients with longer legs since it takes up almost no room in the tub. Although it is not stocked in Canada, it can be ordered at $1395.

MyOn Lightweight Manual Product Feature - June 2011

MyOn LightweightThe MyOn offers some excellent no charge features, like the new adjustable tension back, quick release stabilizer (rigidizer) bar, quick release axles, new style brake extensions and antitippers when you order an adjustable angle back.

Remember to think of the MyOn Active, with multiple axle positions, as a heavy duty, 350 lb weight capacity option in 20, 22 and 24" widths.

Barton Convertible Transfer Chair Product Feature - June 2011

Barton Convertible Positioning ChairThe Barton has been around since the 90s and is still a very unique product. Available in both institutional and home care units, it allows one caregiver to safely and effortlessly transfer an immobile patient from the bed onto the Barton that converts from a stretcher to a bed. This may be a useful option for patients who find a sling too painful and have no specific seating needs. The Barton offers both tilt and recline so the patient's position can be changed throughout the day.
