Quick Take Away - Seating Seminar - Sunrise Medical
14 SelfCare staff attended the excellent Seating Seminars hosted by Sunrise Medical. One of the key points discussed by the presenter, Sharon Pratt, PT was encouraging client input early on in the assessment process to improve compliance. She identified all the goals of a seating assessment and separated them into categories that were identified as reimbursable and non-reimbursable by most funding organizations as shown by the attached diagram. Sharon discussed that, although to funding organizations only the reimbursable goals are valid justification for the equipment, all of these goals should be examined during the assessment in order to value the overall goals of the client and promote compliance with the equipment.

Case Study - One Arm Drive Success
Our Case Study demonstrates how independence can be improved by listening to the client and how modifying the chair can provide mobility and safe transfers.

SelfCare Superstars - Gail Illingworth & Charlotte Skelton, PT
 | Charlotte | SelfCare North Vancouver has two new Seating & Mobility Superstars (in training!) Gail Illingworth and Charlotte Skelton, PT joined our busy North Vancouver location earlier this year in anticipation of Renee Huff's maternity leave. Gail & Charlotte are both very energetic, knowledgeable and are excited to have joined the SelfCare team. Their impressive backgrounds compliment the skills they will need for each seating and mobility assessment.
Charlotte is currently shadowing Renee for the next couple of months. Gail has been working in both the North Vancouver and Vancouver stores. Both Gail & Charlotte are North Shore

Scooters on the Bus Lunch & Learn - May Inservices
The Scooters on the Bus session will begin with a comparison of the new Invacare scooter line to current products on the market, focusing on those suitable for the bus or handyDART. The second half will involve driving the scooters onto the bus. We encourage any therapist who has not tried driving a scooter onto a bus to experience first hand what their clients will encounter.
In addition to the North Shore (May 19th) and Vancouver (May 18th) Inservices, we have added the Fraser Valley Inservice, to be held at the Surrey Transit Centre on May 17th between 12 noon and 1 PM!
