Greetings!

This issue starts with a quick 5 point take away from the 4 lift inservices held at the SelfCare locations in February. Thank you to Trevor Dunn from BHM for sharing his expertise and to everyone who took time to come out.  If you would like to set up a training session for any of your staff at any SelfCare location using our equipment, simply email kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com.

Our reference sheet is Fluid (Gel) Cushions to get you ready for the Sunrise inservices on April 6 and 7.

Looking at gel on another level - the Risk Manager Bedside Safety Mats can improve patient safety as facilities remove bed rails. Check out the Product Feature for details on this excellent product. We did the "Egg & Mat" test and it worked! (see below for more details)

We look forward to providing you with useful information throughout the year. Please contact us at any time if you have any comments, questions or topics you want covered by an inservice by emailing kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com.
5 Point Take Away - Lift Inservice Summary

BHM SlingHere is a quick list of 5 key points from the lift inservices:
  1. Cross the leg straps when using the hammock sling.
  2. Only lift the client high enough to clear the surface and have the bed at its lowest position.
  3. For shorter caregivers, the EasytrackFS track can be lowered to reduce the risk of injury.
  4. When the reacher bar is used, it does NOT get removed. Extra attention is needed when changing the load on the lift to avoid getting hit in the head with the reacher bar.
  5. If using the Voyager, keep the battery on the charger when it is not in use.
Reference Sheet - Gel (Fluid) Cushions

gel cushionGel (Fluid) cushions have promoted improved immersion without resistance to provide pressure redistribution and shear reduction. Working with foam, they can accomplish excellent positioning. However, these benefits are frequently achieved with a product that is heavier that comparable cushions.

Product Feature - Bedside Safety Mats

risk manager matWe Bring the Eggs & the Mat!

With a proprietary elastomeric gel, the Risk Manager Bedside Safety Mat provides the protection and safety you are looking for. We have done the "egg test" on the mat. We dropped an egg from 30 inches onto the mat and it did not crack! (although it did crack when it rolled the ONE inch off the mat onto the floor!) Call your local SelfCare location to see this for yourself - we'll bring the egg and the mat!
