ROHO Mattress Combinations
One of the big advantages of ROHO mattress sections is that they can be used in combination with lower cost foam to target those areas at risk or requiring a healing surface. The attached handout provides a visual resource to both OVERLAYS (which would be used on top of a 2" foam base or existing mattress) and MATTRESS REPLACEMENTS (which are complete mattresses with various pre-cut areas for a ROHO mattress section or visco-foam insert).

Support Surface Reference Sheet - May Inservices
Key comments from the inservice: "Use the best support surfaces you have for the clients most at risk - don't keep your ROHO mattress sections in a cupboard waiting until someone has a wound."
"ROHOs can be used for prevention as well."
"No support surface is a substitute for good patient care - turning is always important and most turning mattresses are for improving respiratory congestion."
"There is no single best support surface. Low air loss systems are most beneficial for clients that have excessive sweating to reduce moisture. This is only approximately 15% of clients with wounds."
