Greetings!

This issue starts our review of funding sources. Equipment and Assistive Technology Initiative (EATI) is a new funding source. Any individual with volunteer aspirations or full / part-time employment goals can qualify for funding. A broad range of equipment is covered and there is no definitive list. Van conversions will be covered if they are required to achieve the individual's goals (but not the purchase of the van). Our funding in the next issue will cover Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC).

Find out more about Multilift Vertical Platform lift and Shower Commodes.

Make sure to RSVP for the Backs and Headrests Circuit Training, on next week.

Thanks for being a part of SelfCare. Please contact us at any time if you have any comments, questions or topics you want covered by an inservice by emailing kim.mackie@selfcarehome.com.

Please note that SelfCare store hours are unchanged for the Olympics and we will be providing inhome deliveries.

Equipment and Assisted Technology Initiative

EATI - funding for adults over 65 or part time students and others

EATI provides a source of funding for assessment, trialing, acquisition and/or training with equipment and assistive devices for people with disabilities who have employment or voluntarism goals. In order to be eligible for EATI funding, individuals must be:
  • A person with a disability who has an employment or volunteer goal
  • 18 years of age or older
  • A BC Resident
  • Unemployed or employed with low skills (for example, low English literacy, incomplete high school) and looking to upgrade
  • Ineligible for Employment Insurance (EI)
    • Have not received an EI benefit in the past 3 years
    • Have not received an EI maternity or parental benefit in the past 5 years
  • Able to demonstrate a need for Assistive Technology
  • Unable to access funding through other programs
Part-time students who are available for work may be eligible for EATI.  Also, older citizens available for work or volunteering (i.e., those over 65) are eligible.

To start the process, individuals are requested to complete the Personal Strategy Tool form (see below) and submit it by email, fax or mail to the addresses on the form.  They will then be contacted by a member of the Provincial Personal Supports Network to take them through the application process.  Hotline phone number: 1-877-333-7554.

Kristy Strocher (kristy.strocher@selfcarehome.com) has already had a client receive funding for a power wheelchair through EATI.

Two EATI information documents are attached here:
