SPOTLIGHT FEATURE
Ain't I A Woman: Our History, Our Journey, Our Legacy 160 Years Later
By Edwinda Welch

In 1851 Sojourner Truth uttered these four words - Ain't I A Woman at a suffragists rally and this question echoes to this day. A contemporary book title reimages this same sentiment - All the Women are White, All the Blacks are Men and Some of Us Were Brave an edited volume of stories, political theory, and more (Hull, Scott, & Smith, 1993). As the national theme for Black History Month (BHM) focuses on the lives and legacies of Black Women, how far have we come to answering Sojourner Truth's  question from 161 years ago? - Read more

Breather Series: Pilates

Thursday | February 9 | 10:45-11:45am

CCC Comunidad Room

Feeling stressed and need some self-care after all those midterms? Come let your muscles stretch at a FREE Pilates class. Pilates is a form of exercise that emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strengthening and flexibility. This class is great for anyone wanting a little exercise or even just a small break. Bring your mat if you have one and wear comfortable clothing. Limited mats and water will be provided. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

Behind Closed Door

Monday | February 16 | 6-8pm

CCC Comunidad

Remember that awkward conversation you had with family when you were a younger about "the birds and the bees"? Do you remember anything they taught you? Are you informed about STDS and safe sex? If you've answered no to any of these questions, then come to Behind Closed Doors, a not so typical dialogue on safe sex from our UCSD Sexual Health Advocates, and a visit from Lea Caughlan from the Rubber Rose. A Q&A will be held if anyone has questions, so come get informed and learn more than just the "birds and the bees." Questions? Contact Jeannette at [email protected].
