The Cross-Cultural Center is now accepting nominations for our annual All People's Recognition Ceremony and Community Celebration. Nominate someone in less than 5 minutes by filling out the short All People's Nomination Form. Nominations are due by Wednesday, May 13.
All People's is an annual community celebration to recognize people on campus who contribute their time, effort, and energy to increase social justice and diversity at UCSD and in the surrounding community. This year we are "Honoring Our Joy": art, activism and those individuals who bring us happiness.
The All People's Celebration will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 5-8PM at the Cross-Cultural Center.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The program will include free food, music, art, and a recognition ceremony. |

Join us in learning of these hidden stories of the Queer API community through the exploration of film and documentaries every Thursday, concluding with a dinner and discussion on May 14th.
This Thursday: San Diego Asian Film Festival Queer Shorts.
SDAFF Queer Shorts includes 10 short films exploring LGBT/downe API identity, love, and relationships. These are films you will not see anywhere else - so do not miss your chance to see them at the CCC!

"MY PAPER HEART" COLLAGE CRAFTING WORKSHOP

UCSD/CCC Alumna Loralei Rose Bingamon will guide this workshop using various art techniques to touch upon art as a source for self-empowerment, discovery, and healing. We will discuss the power of images to reveal subconscious thoughts and emotions as well as engage in an exercise to draw them out.

FRONTIER CONSTITUTIONS: CHRISTIANITY & COLONIAL EMPIRE IN NINETEENTH-CENTURY PHILIPPINES

Dr. Jody Blanco will present his work on Frontier Constitutions, which concerns the cultural transformations, adaptations, and innovations of peninsular Spanish colonists and native-born Creole, mestizo (Chinese and Spanish), and indigenous colonial subjects around crisis of colonial hegemony in the Philippines between the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; and the resulting social anomie that arose from this crisis in law and politics. The crisis of colonial hegemony engendered new political and cultural expressions, which, in turn, sanctioned the formation of new political communities around the precariousness of Spanish rule.

Film: "You Cannot Hide From Allah" (Pakistan). Mr Ihsan Khan is an immigrant from a small town in the Northwest Frontier Provinces in Pakistan. He was a taxi cab driver in Washington DC for over twenty years, and then in 2001 he won $54 million from the lottery. He returned to his hometown in Pakistan, ran for Mayor, and won, saying his number one aim is to fight corruption.

5:00pm-7:00pm, Round Table Pizza Come join us as we fundraise for the LGBT Resource Center undergraduate scholarship. 20% of the proceeds you spend at Round Table will go to the $1,000 scholarship. Bring friends, share a meal, and raise money for an awesome cause.

LOVE AND FORGIVENESS SERIES

The UCSD Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) and the UCSD Women's Center are pleased to co-host a new series of thought-provoking discussions on the topics of love and forgiveness. The series will begin on April 30 with a film entitled, "The Mystery of Love." The discussion facilitator will be Crystal Green, Ph.D., from the FSAP. All staff and faculty are welcome. This is not a counseling group and disclosure of personal information will not be required. Materials from "The Campaign for Love & Forgiveness" will be used to enhance these discussions.
