The MANA de San Diego Scholarship Program was established in 1991 in memory of Sylvia Chavez, a talented and tireless volunteer of MANA de San Diego.Once the applications are received; the applications are reviewed and recipients selected by a talented and dedicated volunteer committee based on academic and non-academic criteria of the applicant including: leadership, community involvement, educational aspirations, career goals, grade point average, special circumstances, and financial need. Dr. Dionne Espinoza was raised in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles. She received her Ph.D. in English from Cornell University. She has taught at UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently an Associate Professor of Chicano and Liberal Studies at Cal State University, Los Angeles. Her research and teaching are centered on the topics of contemporary feminisms, women of color, cultural studies, and Chicano/Latino/Latino American social movements. She has written widely on these issues and most recently co-authored the anthology Enriqueta Vasquez And the Chicano Movement: Writings from El Grito Del Norte (Arte Público Press, 2006). ALEJANDRA RINCON LECTURE: UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS AND HIGHER EDUCATION

Alejandra Rincón, Ph.D. has recently published "Undocumented Immigrants and Higher Education: Si Se Puede!" Rincón is the 2006 recipient of the Human Relations Award conferred by the National Association of College Admissions Counseling (NACAC). She is an avid advocate for immigrant rights in the educational system and has developed programs to encourage Latino and immigrant high school students to attend college. Working for over six years with two of Texas' largest school districts, she was active in the passage and implementation of Texas legislation that allows undocumented high school students to attend Texas colleges at in-state tuition rates.

Now in its third year, Dialogues in Sexuality Studies brings UCSD faculty members and graduate students interested in the growing interdisciplinary field of Sexuality Studies together in a friendly and collegial environment. The two presentations will be followed by open discussion over an informal buffet dinner.
