Addressed from multiple perspectives, and with a deep-seated attention to the lived experiences of the participants in the room, the session will explore both past realities, current situations and potentials for future change. Cultures within departments, political dynamics, and individual effectiveness will be examined and explored. By honoring UCSD's Principles of Community we continue to maintain an excellent workforce, and the session provides a space to hone the skills necessary to maintain and enhance this work. |

Stage Presence Book Launch, Dr. Theo Gonzalves

Theo Gonzalves is an academic, writer, musician, composer, community organizer, theater artist and activist. His latest book, Stage Presence: Conversations with Filipino American Performing Artists" (Meritage Press, 2007). which Theo edited, is a collection on essays and interviews with Filipino American performing artists who talk candidly about performing - how they go about mounting a play or a concert, what inspires them, what challenges they face as artists of Filipino descent in the United States.

Wednesday, May 7: Hidden Voices - The Lives of LGBT Muslims Speaker: Faisal Alam, 5:00pm at Mandeville Center East This presentation aims to dispel myths about Islam, a religion that is commonly misunderstood in today's world. By exploring the complex diversity within the Muslim world and by illustrating the many challenges facing queer Muslims, this presentation will bring new light into the lives of an often invisible and silent community: Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning.

Come join us for Julia Serano's spoken word performance! Julia Serano is an Oakland, California-based writer, spoken word performer, trans activist, and biologist. Julia is the author of Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity (to be published by Seal Press in June, 2007), a collection of personal essays that examines the ways in which misogyny frames many popular stereotypes and assumptions about transsexual women. Julia's performance will be followed by an Anniversary Celebration to honor the LGBT Resource Center's second year in its permanent home. Refreshments will be served. |

Nominate an Outstanding Senior
The Outstanding Senior Awards will be given out at the All Campus Celebration on June 19 to a graduating senior and graduate student who have earned the admiration of the UC San Diego community for exceptional contributions to university life. The winners will be awarded $1000 each and a lifetime membership to the UC San Diego Alumni Association. Members of the UC San Diego community (students, faculty, staff, and alumni) may nominate up to three students for the awards. Nominations are due in the Office of the Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs FRIDAY, May 9, 2008 by 4:30 p.m.
