Day of Silence this Friday!

Day of Silence is the largest, national student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

It brings attention to and protests the discrimination, harassment, and abuse (in effect, the silencing) faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex (LGBTQI) people and their allies.

Be part of Day of Silence at UCSD!

On the Day of Silence, Friday April 25th:
  • Silent Lunch on Sungod Lawn: 12PM - 3PM
  • Breaking the Silence Dinner at the Cross-Cultural Center: 5PM
Pick up your t-shirt and speaking cards any time from now until the event at the LGBT Resource Center!

Mindfullness & Breathing Retreat at Deer Park Monestary
Sun., April 27 from 8:30am - 2:00pm.

Transportation will be provided and will leave from the Cross-Cultural Center at 8:00am.

The goal of this program is not to enhance the participants understanding of social justice, cultural awareness, political issues, or raise activism, but to realize their privileges as an activist, as a student, and as a community member. It is to encourage participants to be self-reflective on their own identity and those who they fight for.
All participants MUST attend the post-program report held on Thursday, May 22 at 6pm in the Cross-Cultural Center.

There is a 30 participant max. A fee of $10.00 per event to aid in subsiding for the food and the donations.

Call for Workshop Submission for NAASCon

NAASCon, the National Asian American Student Conference, is proud to announce the second national Asian American student conference to be held on October 17-19, 2008 at Emory University.

The third conference seeks to examine the connections established in the 2006 conference and progress forward. The theme of this year's conference is FROM VISIONS TO ACTIONS: LET'S GET OUR MOVEMENTS GOING. It recognizes the existing movements as well as the need to examine our current visions. As activist Grace Lee Boggs once said, "New situations bring new contradictions, requiring new visions."

We hope you will work with us in creating a national dialogue among the various regions by facilitating workshops and/or participating in panel sessions. Your input and concerns are important to us, because without your voice, a national dialogue would not be able to happen. Attached you will find the overview of the conference and the workshop submission form. All forms should be emailed to naascon.forms@gmail.com no later than June 15, 2008. Find out more!
