Learn-At-Lunch Program featuring Philip P. Lindsley, JD.
Tue., March 11 from noon-1:30pm in the Santa Cruz Room at the Price Center

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) and the UCSD Staff Association are pleased to present the March 2008 Learn-At-Lunch Program featuring Philip P. Lindsley, JD, CELA, a NAELA Certified Elder Law Attorney.

Topic: "Long-Term Care Planning: The Myths Surrounding Medi-Cal Benefits and How To Qualify Your Family Members"

The lack of understanding about the Medi-Cal Long-Term Care Program is the single biggest legal and financial pitfall for the elderly. This Medi-Cal Program is available to help pay for nursing home care for many thousands of people who are unaware that they or their family members could qualify. At the March Learn-At-Lunch presentation, Philip P. Lindsley will review the basic rules for qualification and how you can help your family become eligible for this assistance, while protecting your family's assets and home. The "Myth of the Medi-Cal Spend Down" will be discussed, along with examples of families that saved hundreds of thousands of dollars by knowing their rights and the rules. Mr. Lindsley will also speak on other legal problems posed by dementia and incapacity, and how to plan for them, and will be available to answer your questions.

If you would like to get your Learn-At-Lunch online, please check Blink at http://blink.ucsd.edu/

If you have further questions, please contact Dr. Rose Lee Josephson at 858-534-2387 or rjosephson@ucsd.edu.

Carlos Fuentes - "Globalization: A New Deal for a New Age"
Free Public Lecture & Book Signing
Thurs., April 24 at 7pm
Mandeville Auditorium
Free and open to the public.

Carlos Fuentes is one of those rare writers who, by the sheer power of
literary art, has defined the cultural, emotional and hereditary identity of an entire continent. A novelist, essayist, scholar and diplomat, he is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest literary and political figures of the Spanish-speaking world. In his essays and nonfiction work (including The Buried Mirror, which was made into a TV series for the Discovery Channel), he seeks to
reclaim that identity and celebrate the rich contributions of Hispanic
culture.

Presented by The Center for the Humanities, Division of Arts and Humanities, and Revelle College, in conjunction with The Consulado de Mexico en San Diego.
Social Justice Quote of the Week:

"In order to rally people, governments need enemies. They want us to be afraid, to hate, so we will rally behind them. And if they do not have a real enemy, they will invent one in order to mobilize us." Nhat Hanh

Now Accepting Applications for MAAP 2008

The Movement Activist Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) is a paid 8-week intensive national organizer training program for people of color, who are committed to learning the theory and practice of building social justice movements through direct-action organizing. Participants learn the art and science of organizing through in-the-field training and skills development with a community or labor organization.  Graduates of the program receive help finding employment as organizers with community and labor organizations fighting for social justice.
