Global Seminar - Cádiz, Spain
Spanish Dialectology and Flamenco
John Moore, Professor, Department of Linguistics,
This global seminar features a package of two complementary courses - one on Spanish dialectology and the other on flamenco. The courses will take place in Cádiz, Spain, an Atlantic seaport in Southwestern Spain. Cádiz was both a gateway to the New World and a source of many dialect features of the Spanish that was exported to the New World. It also played a central role in the development of flamenco. Hence, it is an ideal place to present these courses. Furthermore, as the culture of flamenco is integrally tied to the language of Cádiz and surrounding areas, the two courses complement each other.
